Good use of "primary evidence" there. Yes it did occur, but what happens when you need spares? These are the exception, rather than the rule. Said the man who use to own a Leichter Panzerspaehwagen 202(e)...
Its also "Heil" in your signature, and think carefully about the implications of displaying such an expression.

Re: German captured US halftracks!
Don't believe 1960's war films to be truth. Most are incorrect and use whatever the production company can lay their hands on at the time. Also for the price of a US White halftrack you may as well buy a Tasla and convert it instead of destroying a prefectly good machine.ss-commander smeders wrote:Hi i was watching Kellys Heros (great ww2 film!) and when the officer and the two blitz's full of troops left the fort thing i saw TWO M16 halftrack in german marking's. You must remember, that in sixties when these films were made, there wasn't the body of literature on military subjects that we are used to. The public are more savvy these days, so if you were to go ahead and re-badge an m-16 or m-3, they would be able to tell, and would tell you, and more importantly,
we would all take the piss.
You'd get sick, I assure you.
BTW, in case you haven't encountered the term, a primary source is something that was written at the time or by someone who was there. Hence, 'Signal' the German soldiers magazine, is a primary source, also (for instance) Guy Sajer's 'The Forgotten Soldier' is also a primary source, because Sajer was there. (I reccomend you look up both of these).
War films tend to be secondary sources, or more often outright fiction.

"LOOK OUT! THE PANZERS ARE ATTACKING!"
M48 and M26's used, only 90 of the M26 actually saw combat in ww2!
Ya, never use the darn movies as a yard-stick, especially the older ones, they're fun to watch, but not exactly accurate.
The most "known" instances of captured allied vehicles being used would be that of the Battle of the Bulge, where they were not changed so as to fool american units.
