Why do German reenactors have a fixation with vehicles when horses and pushbikes were a common mode of transport :?:

Cos Jon, horses cost the same to get to an event and they are more dangerous unfortunately. One thing I looked into was getting a horse drawn German ambulance to events, only with the insurance etc it costs over £500 for a weekend, and the horses have to be kept away from loud noises and fed.

916 do a good display with pushbikes though.

Tom

i was talking to some napoleonic reenactors at a show awhile ago regarding horses and they hire specially trained horses that are used to load noises etc. The reenactors had to attend a training course to use the horses but it worked out cheaper than buying a horse the Gebs use a mule and also the cossack group use horses also.

But overall when you look at the cost of a horse and vehicle the horse will still be cheaper thou mate.

Watch this space regarding pushbikes the 916 wont be the only unit using pushbikes in large numbers

Getting a converted vehicle registerd all depends on the age of the chassis it's built on... and how much of the original you use.

If you just change the body on a vehicle with a chassis, (like a landrover) and keep the same engine, drive train etc (and bulkhead if you can) you should have no problem getting it registered - changing a LWB Landy to a Horch I can see no problems... except your gonna have to have everything needed for it's original age of registration.... so unlike a real wartime vehicle you will need indicators, seat belts, windscreen washers, etc etc...

Now, if you bult it on something like a war time dodge.... ;)

OR just buy an original German pre 1945 motorcycle and kiss good buy to credit cards and get into a whole world of pain - and it's a real "nazi" vehicle - mine has chicken stamps all over it's pass-book!!!

Cos you don't have to clean shit up behind a Blitz or an OT810....

The German Army were the first motorised Army..... Vehicles do it Jon. Hosses pull ploughs!
Seriously - Modern H&S dictates that you have to have run off areas when using horses. stabling, exercise paddocks, blah blah blah...
With a motor you just park it up and kick it into life when you need it......
Push irons fine - We'd see a lot more fitter, thinner re-enactors though.....

Because German vehicles became hilariously overengineered as the war progressed?

Still, after speaking with "Carthos" on t'other forum about it, it'd be nice if at one event we had a horse drawn cart :)

Ok it's only a model can't find a real one at work

With an electric motor in the body and wheels driven by hoover belts in the bottom of the feet. WOW! That woudl look great. YOu could fit a sound chip and have walking, trotting, cantering and galloping noises..... three speed stickshift off a Raleigh Chopper.......

Does anyone have any plans?
