Depends on the unit and timeframe, I would not rule it out immediately. If you seriously want to discuss this, you should start a topic in the "uniforms and equipment" forum.

Heer Grenadier in Normandy with a what looks to be a former white wash winter camo helmet.And the photo below is of more Heer grenadiers with chicken wire wraps on their helmets.

Georgian legion grenadiers with chicken wire "half basket" covers on their helmets.Note the one soldat in the rear with the panzerschreck is wearing camo netting.It is the exact style I use on my original restored M40 Q66 helmet for reenacting.

You can see the same man there!

This does not seem to be a ex-whitewash but just some weird "normandy" camo pattern.

It is the same soldier in the photo with the former white washed helmet.I got this pic saved on my computer! :D
