Show off your reenactment helmets!
The place to post all the helmets you use for reenactment. Not the place to show off collections or mint originals. Only the lids that are being used in the field please!
My two repro lovelies:
1st: M35 DD Erbsengrun for early war
2nd:
M35 in field grey paint with a layer of sand on top. Chicked wire basked aged with nitrochloric acid.

The sort-of whitewashed helmet, that's 6006 right?

Re: Show off your reenactment helmets!
If you mean mine, it's RAL 7008 over a textured winter finish. The winter coat shows through in some of the places where it's been banged around, but most of the "lightness" you see is residual dried mud.Sheikh Al Stranghi wrote:The sort-of whitewashed helmet, that's 6006 right?

Aah! What would RAL 7008 be used for? If you could provide a little more info I'll add it to the database

Re: Show off your reenactment helmets!
From what I've been able to dig up, mostly for vehicle interiors and as a secondary color in Afrikacorps vehicle camo. I bought the paint from 1944 Miltiaria, and unfortunately he uses a much more tan colored paint as an example (see eBay item 120225636089) of the color. I was shooting for a more tan color appropriate for southern Russia, but I'm pleased with the result.Sheikh Al Stranghi wrote:Aah! What would RAL 7008 be used for? Re: Show off your reenactment helmets!
So that would not be a standard helmet colour, only a field paintjob
Re: Show off your reenactment helmets!
This is my early/pre war DD helmet (yes i know its a m40 style).
Got the original paint sample of Sheikh Al Stranghi, ive been told the paint may of tinted slightly because of the white spirit i used to thin the paint out, needed alot of it in the paint so the spray gun would work!
Personally i think it looks the part

Great helmets lads. Von Papen, don't worry, it'll darken over time. Next time it's best to get it a little darker as you said.
Walther, what paint did you use for your m35dd?

Re: Show off your reenactment helmets!
It's a Humbrol colour (116) then to give it that used patina I rubed black and brown boot polish onto it. Don't be tempted to buff it up like you would your boots, just dab the excess off.
It has a shine to begin, but after a couple of shows it rubs down and starts to get mucky on it's own.
It's an old article but maybe this will help a bit...
