I'm fitting the liner from the Spearhead helmet, this shell is replacing.

Just never got on with the Barry Lyndon shell/liner positioning.

I pre-tried the liner with this shell, before prep and painting, much happier

I'll post some more pics, hopefully towards the end of the weekend
Is it a Deepeka shell?????

Yeah Chris it's a Deepeka one, got it from somewhere in Germany

The liner it came with is crap, bolts etc were ok - just rusted, like the shell.

I had to 'attack' it with drill sanding discs, wire brushes and some TLC

For my first 'restore' helmet project, I quite like it so far - gotta weather and kick it about a little

You guys will laugh, but I can't wear it for re-enacting lol - it's for one of my FJ 'Airsoft' impressions, since I'm going to Detling as part of DR.

I'm in the middle of working on a Depeeka shell. Luckily I want the rusted look so after stripping all the paint off it was left the the kids sand pit for 2 weeks. Now I'll respray it and go about weathering it. Hopeing it will be my nicest helmet so far. Will post pics when its done.

Looking forward to seeing your pics.

i'm trying to go for a issued from stores, seen a little action version lol - that's why I went back to base and primed, then paint coat.

Fit's in with the WW2 Airsoft Game the weekend after being with DR @ Detling - Operation Husky - hence the RAL colour

Hopefully there may be some pics from that event, if re-enactors don't mind a posting?

Nice paint job on the camo.

Take off the net and dip it in bleach and vinegar so it matches the paint job / aging. Will really finish it off IMO.

Here's my most recent Afrikakorps job- custom mixed tan/ khaki paint hand brushed over a double decal M35 size 66 shell. Czech made repro liner, custom painted owners name (mine) inside. Dust was sprinkled over the wet top coat and then the whole thing aged and worn down. One of my better ones, for sure!

Now having seen the pics of this helmet - i assumed that JD7 bought this second hand from somebody who had buried it for a month. But when my shell arrived today   i realised this is how they sell the buggers

"We are selling parts of an authentic top quality copy of this German WW 2 helmet in dark brown colour and in original size.
Our manufacturer forgot to assemble the parts, therefore we are selling them as a "kit" for customers to assemble them as shown on our last 4 photos. "

Brown it says - painted brown ! well they aint painted brown - theyre covered in Rust. £55 quid spent - for a pile of rust !! So not only do you have to buy the shell from one place and the liner from another - and buy paint - and now it seems primer. but also you need an industrial workshop to remove the so called "brown" finish .

All asian repro's are covered in a red layer of rust. Once you strip one of the original paint, you'll find out. I have stripped several, and all had a layer of rust, and some whiteish paste applied in some spots.
