Actually there are many photos taken during the Normandy campaign, not only later, showing FJ troops with M42s, metal canisters, marching boots etc to support this.
FJR6 was an exception (but not totally) because they were officially placed on jump readiness at the time of the invasion.
I remember Alex Uhlig telling us a story of some new hot shot sports guy who was complaining he was not issued a jump helmet. Alex's answer was "after the firefight there will be plenty for you to choose from".

Sorry for the small off topic.

Using Jager Roll's beauty of an M38 on page 4 of this post roughly as inspiration, my M38; Nothing special - still to source a chin strap and liner that isn't dire for it :)

Dunkelgelb base with some texture, bit of brown over it, and thrashed about the mud a bit and rinsed the worst of it off.

@Peiper... a question on the shell..

Is it a little out of shape?

I mean the collar rim looks very short, it doesn't strike me as being a good shell shape/remake...

Here is one that was recently for sale on german-helmets.com to compare...

A M-35 shell..

Hi Johnny :)
Maybe you can't see the rim properly because of the chinstrap hooked over it ???
Also i think that pic you've shown maybe a different model, maybe an M35, M40
as mine is an M36 :?:

Thanks for your comments, regards Peiper

The german-helmets.com example is a small size. They always look different.
Find one in the same size as Peipers bonce and compare that?
Whats an M36? I've missed that, how does it differ from an M35 or M40?

Hi!

M-36? I thought that was a fallschirmjager shell... Or the code given to the Bulgarian Combat Helmet M-36.

Is there an M-36 German Combat Helmet Shell? First I have heard, and I have been a collector for some time now.

I only thought that there was M-35, M-40, M-42, and the controversial M-45.

But I have never heard of a M-36 Shell?

What is the difference between a M-35?

Thanks

Hi Stig :)
The rims look different on the other models, they seem to flare out more, also saying that
the pic Johhny showed looked like an M40 ?? as i say im no expert but it has post 1940
rough texture paint, also as you say my noggin is a size 60 so that may have something to do
with it lol

Also forgot to add the M40's vent holes were stamped out rather than riveted on unlike the early
models ??

Cheers Pipes

Hi, the only difference between an M-40 shell and a M-35 shell is that the M-35 has a riveted air hole. The M-40 has a embossed air vent. A M-42, has embossed air vent, and flared edges. The M-45, has flared edges and no air holes.

Hence the above shell is a M-35!

As i say iam no expert on lids, and as said above the example you showed has
the later rough texture ?? (post 1940)

PS: have a look at GD's website, they have an M36 on there ??

Try finding a M35 in size 68 to use for reenacting and when you eventually find it, try paying for it...
