On the question of Helm liners....
I have just found a small antiques/bric-a-brac shop near me and the guy has a whole host of post-war helmets with good condition liners.
They are mainly Czech fire-fighters, German firemans and what may be quite old fibreglass eastern bloc types.
My request is; can someone post a picture, reasonably close-up, of an acceptable liner in-situ, so that I can see if any of the helms at this shop may have one inside that I could use.
I'm on a budget and these helms are between £10 and £25, so it may be to my advantage to buy one.
My shell is an original m42, I have the correct liner bi-furcated mounting rivets and chinstrap.

Google is your friend.........

no, seriously, this is the first site that pops up when you Google "German helmet liners."
There is actually a site dedicated to German helmet liners!
But I still haven't found the one dedicated to "natural pig skin prophylactics of the earlier 20th Century."
Hay ho.........
Edited to add:-
A decent repro liner shouldn't cost more than £20. You may find it worthwhile getting one from a dealer rather than faffing around, butchering other helmets.

As the question seem to be answered, i'll hijack this
Is it possible to get a repro liner size 58 that will fit a size 64 shell?
Failing that, where can i get a liner that's exactly 58cm around? My 58 liner from Richard Underwood is actually 59cm, and there seem to be no way of making it a bit smaller for my head.
OR are there actually a way of making a liner one size smaller (59 -> 58 )?

smaller
Well if you fold the leather part down you can cut a strip of thin felt and put it around the inside then fold the leather back up and it will make it fit tighter. You can also do the same thing with some news print paper. If you can find an old newspaper from the war area and use that it would be historically accurate!
The repro ones on eBay are not too bad - metal is a little thinner than an original, but as we're not wearing them as safety devices (in the same way), it doesn't matter. Keith has them, as does SueSue66 - for about £45 you can't go far wrong.

As note in the link posted before, liner sizes came according to shell size. Liner sizes are not interchangable between shell sizes. The size of the shell was the internal circumference where the liner placement holes are, i.e. 68 = 68cm.Mikkel wrote:As the question seem to be answered, i'll hijack this

Shell - Liner
----- - -----
62 ---> 54 - 55cm
64 ---> 56 - 57cm
66 ---> 58 - 59cm
68 ---> 60 - 61cm
There was also a 70 shell, for heads even bigger than mine

almost any glue will work, white glue, contact cement, crazy glue.
Even double sided carpet tape will work
