The first was a picture before the decals.
This helmet was at on time a fire fighters helmet painted red.
I stripped it down and underneath was original paint the only painting I had to do was to the top of the helmet.
So in the end it has sort of a very very faint camo. :D

If someone would be so kind as to give this a thumbs up or down I would really appreciate it.This will be use for a 1940 impression.
Regards Mike.

Please be honest,I would rather look silly here then in the field.

I would leave it off.
Your feldgrau m35 with 2 decals will do fine for your early impression.

The decals look to be too low. The regs are they should be approximately
3mm below the vent hole. Only the Luft Eagles are placed lower.

Wich regs.....source? i have seen many original helmets with decal very low and high,
not even straight under the vent-hole.

Very true I have even seen them completely crooked, even SS helmets.
If you watch the video German helmet on you tube where they are being made in the factory.
The Luft helmets on the drying rack are all different.Have also seen helmets with other decals applied over existing ones.
Note to anyone applying decals with varnish (this is the real reason mine are like this) you have little to no time for correction.
make sure the decal is where you want it before it touches the varnish s the decals are very thin.Trying to move the on the helmet will result
in deformed decals or breakage.Do it the same as the factory did( found this out a bit to late) use the top of the paper on which the decal sits as a guide/spacer,you will note that it is the same as you see most helmets(not all) but once it is in place .That is where it will stay.
I would guess the was also true of originals. As far as Luft helmets I have seen those ranging from very high to very low.
same goes for Heer and SS and as Mooyman as pointed out even off centered and crooked.I think there is one of the off centered ones in the helmet reference on this section of the forum. This also goes for uniform breast eagles.I have seen those high and some sewn on to the pocket note other insignia flaws as well.

Here are the regs.

Order dated 17 February 1934
Order No. 440/34 Defense A General IV B2 Az. 64 and
Orders dated 1 March 1934
Az. 64 C 32 V3 VI a
No. 209 2. 34

Source: The history of the German Helmet by Ludwig Baer pg 102 - 103

I understand that these regs were not always adhered to but if your reproducing a helm why not
follow them like on most helms produced.
