This one is pretty interesting. It is a double decal 1939 dated helmet which has been re-painted by brush. Both the factory applied insignias have been painted around. This could have been done for re-issue or simply freshening up the exterior appearance.
Thanks to Ken Niewiarowicz.

Interesting camo helmet:
This M35 helmet is a former double decal ( SE66) which has been over-painted in a two color camouflage pattern of grey and tan. At some point there was a wrap of baling wire for added camouflage. A fragment of this wire remains protruding from beneath the rear of the liner frame. The helmet is profusely marked with unit stamps. There is a name painted onto the inside rim as well as a feldpost number. The felpost number is one which was assigned to 3. Batterie Flaksheinwerfer abt 708 (a flak searchlight unit). The chinstrap bears a stamp from a Flak unit. The liner bears an inkstamp from Flak regiment 49. (located in Mannheim) the chinstrap is dated 1938 as is the liner frame. The camo paint most likely dates to 1945 when Flak crews of German cities came to be on the front-line. A very interesting helmet which; by the way, is pictured in the 1983 volume of "German helmets 1933-1945" by Goodapple and Maertz.

A nice example of an original m42 chickenwire helmet.
Notice that the ''twist'' from the wire is rotated in one direction in compairing
with postwar chickenwire is twisted in two directions to each other
Also with removed decal
Thanks to Ken Niewiarowicz

It is a 1938 dated M35 helmet originally factory finished as a double decal. The exterior has been over-painted in rough texture feldgrau leaving the army decal exposed. The helmet has little or no handling wear so the paint color is still extremely flat.
thanks to Ken Niewiarowicz.

are you able to post a close up photo of the decal on the M42? Might be able to tell you if its a Kriegsmarine decal or a discoloured Heer decal.
