Hallo,
Names in helmets, I'm not sure if it was done by every soldier? Was it? I think most would?
Where would the name be written? Along the back or to the left or right? In white paint?
What was written (Rank, First Name, Second Name?) In what kind or writing?
All the best and thanks,
Nathan

Re: Names in Helmets??
Don't take this as Gospel, but in our unit we paint the surname under the rear rim in a form of gothic script.... in white
It's not real... it's called re-enacting!
Re: Names in Helmets??
It was a practical thing to do then as it is now.
If you are in a group with a few of you kit often gets mixed up. If your name is on it or in it you can easily identify your things.
Neil.

Re: Names in Helmets??
Gothic script or Sütterlin - Name or number and even name AND number were found in helmets. White paint was common but I have seen proper yellow paint used as well as light grey - Must have been whatever was to hand. One of mine has a nice name AND number done very neatly in white.
Other thing is - Do you do it so that it is readable when helmet is upside down or the same way up as the helmet when worn........ again - both are correct.
