Helmets etc in "der bunker" (well, the loft...)
Hi,
I'm new on here, and a couple of people have asked about my little collection, so here are a couple of snaps of the headwear end of things.. Most helmets are original shells restored by me, whilst the hats/caps are repro..
Cheers,
Ade

Nice collection and it doe'nt matter if it is repro,at least you have gone for quality.
I started collecting in 1971 and I got my "fingers" burnt buying copys as original, but I learned
from my mistakes talking to more experienced collectors and buying the best books on my chosen subject.I don't collect any more 1.the fakes now are so good and 2.Its too expensive.
Last week I bought an WW1 Iron cross 1st class for my unifom,a quality copy for £20 and I walked away shaking my head thinking "thats what I paid for real ones twentyfive years ago".
Anyway I've rambled enough and wish you the best of luck if you decide to join the wonderful
world of re-enacting.

Re: Helmets etc in "der bunker" (well, the loft...)
Thanks - yes, I have thought about switching over to a smaller collection of originals, but the prices are just so ridiculous, plus the fact there are so many good fakes passed off as originals - even the "experts" seem to argue about the authenticity of a given item when you look at some of those collecting forums, so safer to stick with half decent repros..!! Yes, I would like to get into re-enacting, but I'm spoilt for choice - torn between FJ, Gebirgs, "ordinary" Heer, or W-SS, which all equally interest me - will try to make my mind up in the near future, and perhaps join up with a group later this year..!

You have a nicely presented and laid-out "war room" there!

Re: Helmets etc in "der bunker" (well, the loft...)
Thanks Ashley,
I used my (very!) limited DIY skills to convert the loft a couple of years back, to accomodate the "bunker". It's nice to have somewhere to set the kit out, but more importantly it is out of the spare room now, so a) the wife is happy, and, b) I can keep buying new items and filling the loft up without the wife being able to keep track of all I'm buying....!!!
