That patch pictured is only for the operator for an assault boat as far as I know. Here are some photos in my collection from one group of pioniere in Pionier-Bataillon 88, 46. Infanterie-Division. No special patches or equipment here. (Sorry, some family and RAD photos)

The patch you're referring to, do you mean the 'F' (Feuerwerke) patch? I beg to differ but it certainly doesn't refer to an assault boat in any shape or form.

The W-SS would have had the black diamond shaped patches in any case, not the Heer pionier troops.

Sorry, I must have been confused on this one. I could have sworn someone posted a photo of an assault boat badge.

Sorry for the confusion.

Yet another pionier want to be. I already have the SS pionier book,2 long shovels post war, pouches ex IMA not that bad a repro product and seem to be strong enough, manuals and fuzes ex Ost Front.
I have been making up a pionier box of woodwork tools, old drill and bits, hand saws and hammers, something every pionier section would have had in their support vehicle, a must for building roads, bridges and buildings.
I am after info on charges and mines, I have one shoebox mine but want some M42 teller mines.
Does any one know who makes replica ones. Being as far as I know the only person in New Zealand doing the pionier impression both for SS and Gebrgsjaeger any and all help would be greatly receivered

Finally, SOF are doing the pioneer assault backpack!!!!!!!!!!!

in green..............

Ive seen original German webbing in both green and tan, but those were belts whereas i haven't seen any pioneer kit in such a green shade that SOF have it.

One does beg to know why do they do this????

*pretends not to notice the 4-year thread necro-posting*

I thought I'd drop this question here, along with all the other pioneer stuff - makes sense to keep everything together.

1) What trade patch/es would a regular Heer pioneer have worn? I've found the boat/coxswain one on-line (anchor crossed by wheel), but no other patches - and equally little information. Any advice/photos available?

2) What is the purpose of the D-rings on the pioneer pouches? (see pic below, ring on left)
Image
I've tried connecting them to the bottom hooks of the engineer pack, but luckily that blonde idea did not last long. Does anyone have a photo of the pioneer webbing being worn, or an instruction diagram showing the layout? I'm currently rigging mine with a D-ring loop between the two pouch loops, so that the weight of the pouch is 'carried' by the D-ring loop (leather loop with D-ring on top). This puts the pouches rather forward though, in about the same place that the rifle ammo pouches would be worn - not sure if this is correct, and haven't been able to field-test it yet to determine how ergonomic it would be.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

The D ring is for a strap to attatch it to the other matching pouch on your other side. Much like MP44 pouches, the intention is to balance them and stop them moving around so much on the belt.

I'll give it a try and see how it works after a day of athletics in the field. I've found that they tend to stay put if you put a belt hook (with D-ring) between their belt straps, as the suspender straps then keep them aligned.

If that works then that's fine. I imagine soldiers would of cut off/removed the strap connecting the two anyway, much like some did with the MP44 pouches.
