Thanks for the link I'm looking for a different one. I'm looking for the type hauptwachtlieder Strachwitz uses in the movie The Great Escape when he asks Ives his name at the beginning of the movie after finding him hidden in the back of the truck under the brush

Brother in law bought one today, different to the one posted above, from local militaria fair. Brown with no plastic had a quick google for piccies to show what I mean (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sh ... hp?t=81050) and found 2nd picture on this post is similar to what he's bought (no 13 on it) think he paid about £30 for it.

That's a map case Dink
What these lads are talking about is a large purse type thing (fold over) which a Spiess carried tucked in the front of his tunic. He carried his reporting book and other papers (orders of the day) etc. It was kind of like a badge of office.......

Will have to find the film cos it shows how observant I am, I was merely commenting on the on that was linked, we saw those as well marked up as PW map cases. Hence my response, that and meldetache was googled and brought up images of those types of cases (the map ones).

What I use is a bad copy of the correct style "wallet" eg its got a buckle all the way round it and then is folded. This is the nearest I've been able to find. Hope this helps Harold.
RAU had them for £10 in brown and black.

PM me if you want any more info....

Does anybody have a picture/drawing of the "Spiess" pouch? Or do you know where I can get one?? I am after the one that was carried in the front of the tunic.. well you know the one... Like the one.. Hauptwachmeister Schulz carries in 08/15 or the one as mentioned in The Great Escape..
