The hatred of the Wehrmacht, according to veterans!

Apart from the usual items, a ringkragen when on duty, a copy of the feldgendarmerie regulations (Feldgendarmerie Vorschrift - H.Dv 275 if you care!), and reporting book (same size as the soldbuchs, 46 pages. Interestingly, if a suspect was arrested, a full detailed description had to be made in this book - incorrectly or illegally making an arrest has serious consequences). Handcuffs were occasionally carried in the right lower tunic pocket, but mainly when on patrol within garrison towns (these were either the chain 'come along' which wrapped around one wrist and was used to lead a suspect, or a pair of hinged rigid cuffs, similar to those used by the British police today). Occasionally in bad areas, a rubber baton was also carried, usually in a belt loop adjacent to the sidearm (these were about 18 inches long - I have one and it bloody hurts, even just a 'light tap'). On the Eastern front, a fake soldbuch and kennkarte were issued, and the Fg insignia was only lightly stitched on, so it could be quickly removed.

Apart from that, the rest of the kit was the usual items we all know and love, uniform wise!

Thanks Tom!

I never knew that they lightly stitched their insignia so it could be removed quickly, nor that they carried repro (heheh) documentation. So thats how you got to 'hang' with us stubblehoppers at Beltring, your face has been remembered and your erkenungsmarker recorded - report to the feldwebel in the morning.

How about the Feldwebel report to me? If you believe what my ID disc says, I'm from infantry replacement battalion 404.
I'm afraid fake soldbuchs are nothing new...
