best way to age them. go outside. make some mud. shove dot pants into mud and get real nice and dirty (yes completely in the mud!!) leave them sit for a little bit. take them out. leave sit outside in sun till dry. then beat of dirt. dont be afraid to shove your uniform in the mudd (you can always beat the dirt off and it makes your uniform look more in. and take a knife and put a tear or 2 in the uniform (wear spots) and then sew them up. you would have worn these for weeks and weeks and weeks
here are some pics of me wearing my dot.
(tunic was done with dirt method- trouser just worn at home and when working)

Stuff things in the pockets so they go baggy and out of shape! Sleep in them to get the extra fine creases! Stand in the rain so the collar and pocket tab corners curl up! Wipe your dirty hands and utensils on your sleeves, jacket hem or trousers at every opportunity!
You get the general idea... not so much fading as submerging the pattern in an accumulated dark layer of dirt...

Go to a tanning salon - Select a 700 bed and leave them there for three hours.... Go back and turn them over - Leave for three more hours....
I saw a bird the other week who had had a spray tan..... She kitted off and I jumped a mile!!!!
"What's your effing problem?" she said (Classy bird like)
"Nowt" Says I "It's just that tan is so streaky I thought a tiger had got into the room!"
Needless to say I didn't get that shag I'd been promised!!!!

The dot 44 uniform officialy came into issue in March 44 and was surposed
to be withdrawn too stores in winter and been re-issued in spring 45
though photo evidence of Ardens shows otherwise
in a nut shell it only existed for just over a year
so unless you want to do Berlin 45 the chances are your pea dotts would
look quite new
the only thing to add would be dirt
in my opinion all this "its got to look 60 years old to be authentic" is Bollo*ks
I remember a veteran on a program who was captured on D Day + 1
who was taken back though the lines of the 12th SS
He said all he remembers is being taken past columns off well equiped soldiers all dressed in brand new kit and it shocked him because in
England he had been told the Nazis had nothing left and were a spent
force who were ill equiped
so a bit of dirt and some rips and repairs for well worn field look but
the colours would be unfaded its only months old not years

Untrue, there was no such thing as colorfast dye in the 40's and after a good rain and a good hard workout they would have bled white(Really) If you look at pics of SS-HJ you will see that their uniforms had faded rediculously over the shot period they were in action, tough weather+ HBT + non colorfast dye = very faded unformsPosted: Mon Aug 06, 2007 4:53 pm Post subject:

The previous post is spot on, camo stuff being dished out out at that point in the war would look peachy and brand spanking new, and it was made to last, no matter what the ebay rogues and vagabonds say.

What is your reference for this statement? So how do you account for the thousands and thousands of original uniform items, plain and camouflaged, that still retain their colour after over 60 years? Colorfast dyes have been around for thousands of years, mate, not just decades Add to that the fact that camouflage materials didn't use dyes, they used oil and spirit based printing inks, which will not wash out with just a bit of rain. Stick them through a washing machine 50 times, on a hot wash with detergent, and they will fade, but they certainly don't wash out to whiteJugendkrieger wrote:Untrue, there was no such thing as colorfast dye in the 40's
