Das DJ wrote:Here is a good link if you are still looking for German WW2 songs. It has all the English translations on it too, so no need to rely on babbelfish. It also has the tune in a streaming file so that you can listen to it and sing to yourself merrily away.
:D
just checked this site out..seems to me they've used babbelfish on it too
because there are so many mistakes to the english version of panzerlied...
for non german speakers it's a good starting point, but take these translations with a pinch of salt lads..

Steve Das Reich wrote:There is a German propaganda film in one of the scenes, it starts with soldiers marching along the road singing Erika, the scenes than keep changing... office girls, factory workers etc all continuing the song from scene to scene.

Erika was sung by all Germans, not just soldiers.
It was written by Herms Neil in 1938.

Neil was probably the most prolific 'marching song' composer of the Nazi period, writing such songs as:-

Antje, mein blondes Kind
Das Frankreich-Lied
Die ganze Kompanie
Die Landpartie
Erika
Es blitzen die stählernen Schwingen
Es ist so schön Soldat zu sein, Rosemarie
Es war ein Edelweiss
Fliegerkuss-Marsch
Gegen Briten und Franzosen
Gerda-Ursula-Marie
Hannelore
Heut stechen wir ins blaue Meer
Ich geh auf gross fahrt, Marie
Jawohl, das stimmt jawohl
Liebes Madel Schones Kind
Marsch der Gebirgsjäger
Rosalinde
Ruck-zuck!
Stuka uber Afrika
Tschingta, tschingta, bummtara.

The titles might not mean much but you will all recognise the tunes.

Find Neil's compilation CD (and more) on this website:-

Erika song is the favourite song of my daughter Erika (4 years old), she keeps on singing it whilst playing, although she as also been caught singing Lili Marleen.

Here are the words in Finnish, the song was sung in here as well during and after WW2.

Kankahalla kasvaa kaunis kukkanen,
Nimeltään Kaarina.
Perhot kirjosiivet kiertää kilvaten,
Miss´ on hän, Kaarina.
Hällä huuli kun on hunajaa,
Tuoksu kummustansa tulvahtaa.
Kankahalla kasvaa kaunis kukkanen,
Nimeltään Kaarina.

Siellä jossain tiedän sievän tyttösen,
Nimeltään Kaarina.
Mua hän muistelee tuo hellyys herttainen,
Aartehein, Kaarina.
Voi kun luonto säihkyy väreissään,
Hälle lennätän mä laulun tän.
Kankahalla kasvaa kaunis kukkanen,
Nimeltään Kaarina.

Kukka kaunis myös on kamarissa mun,
Nimeltään Kaarina.
Aamunkoittehesta päivän laskuhun,
Katsoo mua, Kaarina.
On kuin kuulisin sen kuiskaavan:
Pikku morsiantas muistathan,
Suahan täällä jossain itkee tyttönen,
Nimeltään Kaarina.
