Image

its approx. 80mm wide x 34 ( this is the flat part ) and the hidden part will be the same.

Hi Kev, I've normally struggled to find the right catches and handles, rather than the hinges! A butt hinge such as you show should be readily obtainable from a decent hardware store locally to you? Of course the actual dimensions may be the problem for you but there are dozens of sellers online so its a question of combing through... I'd post links but all mine are for peculiar over-centre catches and the like!

Good luck anyway!

Hi David

Yes , had a good look before asking , however most modern 80mm wide hinges are narrow and have their holes inline (and four not three ) , plus these wartime ones only have four parts rolled over the pin and modern hinges seem to have double that.
Don't want to spend time on good finger joints and bugger it up with modern hinges.

The next fun part will be finding the steel end handles , not the regular ones but the ones with the recessed steel square plate
(sometimes found on Patronenkasten 1500 boxes )

then there is the flush type locks.... oh I do like a challenge

Hi Kev
Speak to jock as he has great contacts for ironmongery, some of the wartime makers are still making the same product!
