Post by jackjones1 »

doing a show all weekend and with heat i was just wondering is it ok to wear your bread bag on a strap instead of being hooked up to your belt so when running about if it gets too warm i can fire it off.

Wearing a bread bag on a strap was not unheard of ..... Wearing it as such so you can simply discard it if you get too hot ......

Wearing the strap instead of it being hooked on the belt wasn't really that common unless you were in a situation where you were moving short distances a lot, say an artillery crew trying to keep up with the advancing panzers, but even then with the standard em belt it was so easy just to take off your whole belt with everything on it to allow free use, then clip it back on when you had to move...

Some pictures of guards using the strap, but in combat, nah.

Afternoon,

Panzer Fusiliers of the Grossdeutschland Division are seen to wear them by the straps. This is seen in 1944 after they were equipped with SDKFZ 251D's. Pretty obvious why this was, easy to sling on and off upon mounting and dismounting the halftracks.
