Is it just me or are all the collars on repros too large, in oriinal pictures all the collars are a lot tighter.

You are not wrong, this is one draw back with 'off the peg'size's and they vary from firm to firm.Thats why I've ordered a made to measure M27 tunic and hopefully it will fit better at the neck,I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

Yes agreed some are awful, the guy where im getting the General's uniform from ive
had a uniform from before so know how they fit plus the quality is there, even though
they are are Asian the quality and detail are exceptional (see pic of previous tunic below),
also bear in mind they do look slightly tighter when wearing them tbh.

Anyway thank Brigadefuhrer for the info and pics, i think iam opting for the gold metal type
insignia due to the time scale also it appears the embroidered type worn by Manteuffel
was in silver but did apparantly wear the gold metal type, the cap iam going to go with
your guy "militaria Lee" who did your jacket, it appears the type in tricot that he does
is the closest in colour iam trying to go for to match my tunic colour, as the others ive
seen appear in different shades tbh and i didn't want an odd coloured hat, admittedly
some did wear mixed colours but i wanted the outfit all in the same shade.

Quick question Brigadefuhrer if you're reading, iam i correct in the pic below being
the shoulder strap insignia of the General Der Panzertruppe, this being Manteuffel's rank
of course but the pips worn would they be in silver ??

On Manteuffels shoulder straps he also wore the GD monogram, i take it this was in gold
colour

Hi Loz,yes the pips are in silver,as for the monograms as far as I know officers were gilt, but I do not know if this is the same for General ranks(general officers in the LAH wore silver monograms and pips)I want to say gilt but I would like confirmation from the GD lads really.

Many thanks Brigadefuhrer for the help/advice, i will hold fire on the GD monograms
until i find some further evidance, the portrayal is coming along just waiting on the tunic
and cap, my original ribbon bars have arrived, just have to make some adjustments

Found on WAF (more by accident) a shoulder board section a generaloberst board with GILT monogram(it would not let me copy the picture) hope this link works http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/unif...ards/index.htm

Cheers John
Ive zoomed in on a pic of Manteuffel and you can just see the GD monogram in the left
hand side, unfortunately the pic is in b/w so you cannot tell if it was in gilt or silver
although as you say the usual case is officers wore the gilt monograms and NCO's silver
emblems (see pic below)

Two colour pics of the General below but sadly dont show the shoulder straps clearly
enough although it shows the metal gilt cap insignia which is a help to my research

That would be an intresting portrayal, you dont see that often,
as i say thought i would get a new project going to keep me busy,
it probably wont see the light of day except on a mannequin or
maybe at one of the smaller events, just a quick quetion what
colour leather belt should i go for, ive seen the usual colour
for this type of portrayal is brown, any suggestions ?

The regulations for belts was all over the place,I would go for brown,in November 1939 it specified that belt be brown, but officers could wear black enlisted belts in the field, but this was largely ignored and officers kept there brown belts, in July 1943 an order specified that the belts be black or brown belts blackened. It seems that it was difficult to blacken brown belts and another order October 1943 stated existing brown belts would be worn brown. In May 1943 the width of the belt be reduced from 50 and 55mm to 45mm.
At the Detling show I got a 55mm wide brown belt from Antony of Militaria net(the only one there)I did unpick the stitching,it was glued as well to remove the buckle and paint it matt gold and restitched it back together with my trusty leather tool.
Dave as for Police generals uniforms, james Brown had one made by Janke, but although he makes the brown collar he cannot or will not do the brown cuffs,so he had to settle for turn back cuffs.
As for the unionmilitaria police tunics,he doe's them with brown collar/cuffs a first and second collar patch version police general tunic and police generals trousers, as discussed before the fabric colour is field grey and not 'police green',but despite that its one of his 'best sellers'.

Most types of tunics could be seen at the front. If you notice that for combat Manteuffel is wearing an o/r M36 with generals insignia.
Odd that they use the expandable lower pockets for such a tunic.

No not odd at all, since i have researched this project i have noticed Generals
wearing all sorts of style of tunic, some with pockets, some without, some with
vents/pleated pockets etc, i think it was just personal taste, these tunics were not
normal/general issue for the most part they were tailor made so high ranking officers
could choose what style they wished tbh.

Anyway thanks John for the advice, i think i will probably stick with the brown belt,
tbh i had a feeling the buckles would be gilt so i guess i will get the model paint out
and convert one like your good self lol
