General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Re: General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Hi Peiper,
Walther did mention earlier that Manteuffel wore the 3rd pattern sutterlin script cufftitle. The one you have purchased is the 4th pattern. Send that back and get the 3rd pattern.
Here are two pics, one of Manteuffel with 3rd pattern sutterlin script cufftitle and the other being examples of them. The top being an enlisted man's, the bottom being an officer's aluminium wire. The middle one being the 4th pattern.
Personally, I purchased mine from Morigi, but the PFRGD and Aufklarung boys will be able to tell you who is producing the best reproductions now. When choosing though, one consideration would be to review how close the proximity of the script is to the borders. My Morigi version, although good in many respects, does not achieve this in comparison to other (albeit inferior quality) versions I have seen.
A short bio from Max, former unit commander of PFRGD re Manteuffel - http://www.germansoldier.co.uk/manteuffel.html
Best,
Nick

Re: General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Hi Bauer, thanks for the post/advice, you are perfectly correct of course but my portrayal
is of Manteuffels M36 No1 Generals dress which i discovered through research that on this
uniform the man wore the Gothic silver wired officer type, the O/R's Sutterlin script type
was worn on Manteuffel's leather overcoat and O/R's M36 "badged up" uniform he wore
while in combat areas, this can cleary be seen in many photo's that he wore an other
ranks tunic in combat,. also the actual leather overcoat has been recovered in a museum
clearly showing the O/R's cufftitle, as im trying to keep this portrayal as close as i can
without the real thing, there are a few pics about but here's a couple showing the
different cufftitles worn.
Showing gothic cufftitle
Showing O/R's sutterlin script cufftitle

Re: General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Hi Peiper,
Oh, sorry, my bad. That said, Your eyesight is better than mine because I cannot distinguish what cufftitle that is in the first pic. The cufftitle you refer to though was supposedly not issued until late 1944, but there is photographic evidence that it was being used in the summer of 1944 (according to my former unit commander). As Manteuffel took over GD in Feb 44 and had left in Sep 44, for me that raises some doubt about whether it is this version in pic 1 of your post.
Here is the pic meeting Hitler and if I had to bet, I would put my money on this being the sutterlin script pattern, based upon the "O" loop of the first G. Just my two-penneth worth. Best of luck. Nick

counters lol, as there isn't many pics of Manteuffel wearing his No1 uniform tbh, they are
mainly combat pics where he is wearing his O/R's tunic, obviously battle front pics for their
propaganda value, i will have to try another supplier as Epic doesn't do the Officer silver
wired sutterlin version, by the way does anyone know a supplier of general gold wire type
cap eagles, have looked at the usual suspects but no joy

Re: General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Here you go,I do not portray any actuall person, the rank is Generalmajor, since this photo was taken I have changed the cap insignia for pre 1943 and also got a brown belt. The cap is a Janke from James Brown,I also have generals long trousers as well as breeches.I have on order an M27 tunic and I have a waffenrock parade/walking out tunic.
and a photo from WAF of generals 'small walking out dress'."I require able bodied men, with good horse and gun.
I wish none but those who desire to be actively engaged".

Re: General Hasso Von Manteuffel uniform questions
Up until January 1. 1943,generals wore silver/white metal or bullion embroidered insignia, after that date they adopted gilt metal or gold nylon (celo)or gold wire embroidered insignia.
