Shoei G43

Hi everyone,

I purchased a Shoei G43 recently. What's the general opinion of the wood used on them as I'm no expert on the colour and grains of laminate stocks used on German rifles? As I'm keeping a eye on a bare repro stock that can be stained/linseed oiled to a nice finish.



Or, has anyone found a good way of stripping the lacquer off the Shoei stock and treat it to give a more accurate colour (if the colour is too far off in the first place)?

A blow torch(a nice broad, big one!) is a good way to shift varnishes quickly, with minimal sanding. Just torch quickly to wrinkle it, and it should wire wool off with minimal effort. Obviously it recquires some care not to scorch the wood, but its easy.

Where did you get the shoei? Interested in one myself.

Do they deal direct with shoei? How's the build and quality?

Sadly no, this was just one he had in by chance. As far as I know Shoei stopped making these years ago?

The build quality for a replica is excellent. Good weight, materials used appear to be sturdy (this is the first replica I've ever owned though so can't compare to others). And apparently the majority of parts are interchangeable with originals, including magazines.

Repro scope rail fits on just fine aswell, although as with most repro mounts not being matched to a rail you do have to play about with the tension lever to attain the correct pressure to lock the mount in place.

It's near enough to the original having compared the 2 side by side, I would leave it as is as a rare collectible replica rifle.

Very nice gun... Would love to own one of those...

But i don't see why you should change the appearance of the stock... It does look very good as it is... Alternatively you could buy a polish repro stock... They do look better than the shoei stock...
