Oh my god, my collar is obnoxious.

Post by valkyrie895 »

Friends,
The tunic I wear is an old second hand Lost Battalions "M42". It is upwards of six years old and has a beautiful amount of natural age and wear.
The only downfall is that apparently the collar is addicted to "male enhancement" pills, and sticks straight out. This pisses me off. I look like (more of a) fool and lessens the over all appearance of my impression.
I have tried many methods to correct this issue.
I tried ironing it out,
I tried wetting the wool and clamping it in the proper position,
I tried tack-stitching the collar points down,
I tried praying every night,
But to no avail. The stupid thing stands more erect than a pre pubescent after a long nap.
Has anybody had this problem with their tunics?
Has anyone figured out how to fix it?

Thanks, Chris.

I too have an old Lost Battalions Feldbluse, although mine is a M40. I have noticed that after about 8 years or so of wear and use in the field it has aquired a good lived in look. I have also noticed that the very tips of my collor do tend to curve upwards after years of use. I always just assumed that after 8 years of being worn, abused and the occurance of natural shrinking of its wool from being worn in various types of weather that it was a natural. They do not seem to do it too obnoxiously but I find myself pushing them flat from time to time. I have not tryed to fix it as permenently as you say you have. After so much use the wool of my Feldbluse has shrunk and seems to fit perfectly and I tend to ignore the collar as they just tend to curve slightly rather than stick up. Perhaps pictures would help, I am curious as to how it looks standing up. It also does not help that unlike most guys that I have seen at events, I have worn the same old Feldbluse for years.

Take it to a good taylor, he will be able to "reshape" the collar.

Thanks for the speedy reply and opinions,
I will post pics very soon.
I am hesitant to take it to a tailor because there is only one tailor in my area and i don't want him thinking i'm a nazi weirdo.
We shall see.

Nice one, Uncle Touchy.

But it is worse than that picture. It sticks literally almost straight up. i think it might be an issue that the wool shrank a small bit, and the backing didn't, so it curled up. It is really bad.

Bend coat hangers to the correct shape and sew them in under he collar.

Perhaps this is because the cotton thread has shrunk. Bit tricky, but they could be un-picked and re-sewn, if you are not confident, then go to a seamstress, tailor, repair shop, dress maker, or even a military tailor, etc. They will just think it's fancy dress and not report you to the Police.

Why not? That's what everybody else has done and it's the only thing that corrects the problem.

I don't wear an LB tunic and if people get uppity about some metal bits under the collar, one should note that LB Feldbluse have polyester in the fabric.

You cut the coat hanger into a small V shape and sew it in place. If it were the cotton collar backing that had shrunk the collar should turn down, not up. It's not something that's readily correctible and the only thing I have seen work is the coat hanger trick.

So, if you object to having a small V shaped metal object underneath your collar, your best bet is to just get a better repro. The Texled's are great.

Hahahahahhahaaha even if i had a spare $600 bucks to drop on a tunic, i wouldn't buy one. There is no way i will spend that much money because I know myself and I will destroy the thing.
When I go to events I have this habit of living in holes, crawling through mud, etc.
It may be the most correct uniform available, but if I dropped $600 on it and tore it, I would end up disappointed, and in the end, $600 in the hole.

I spent 100 bucks on this LB thing second hand.
No, I will not sew metal under the collar.
I will just have to risk it and take it to the tailor.
