good idea as in war any raw materials would have been used to replace ripped , broken or lost stuff and take it from me the heavier type bags are aqward to to use with your field gear .

According to Andrew Mollo's book they were introduced in 1939 for assault troops it consisted of to bags 38x18 cm joined at the top and bottom by two webbing straps .They hung round neck each side of the wear's body , and held in place by a adjustable strap round the rear .each bag held 3 grenades and was closed at the top by a zipper

That is the type of bag that I purchased. But does the book specifiy on what branch of the military would have used this type of bag?

Here is some info.
As noted in the thread, the ones with the leather closure tabs and the sewn-in cells within the pouch are for rifle grenades. Others in the thread noted that the zippered ones (white RiRi zippers iirc) are LW issue for FJ.

The hand grenade bags I've seen used by the Heer seem to be alot less "finished' than rifle grenade bags. They look like a jute or hessian type material.
