Kar98k

Post by Maus Commander »

New question from me.

Just wondering if folks know of any websites or suppliers selling blank firing Karbiner 98k's etc, oh and whatever documentation I may need to actually own one.

Mostly into more investigation of this to see how much I need to start saving. :)

Again - one of the oldest and most commonly asked Q's in the game.

There is no such thing as a "blank firing K98".

Firing K98s are Section 1 Firearms.

You apply for a firearms certificate and are subject to all the regular checks etc. You need a proper firearms cabinet properly affixed.
If you require it for live firing then you need to be in a properly formed and constituted gun club and be an active member.
If you cite re-enactment as a reason for ownership/use - It is a valid reason - You need to be in a properly constituted and run club. In this instance you apply for the weapon only - NO AMMUNITION. That way you can fire blanks. If however you are caught in posession of ONE round of live ammunition - prepare for a VERY BIG book throwing at you.

Hope this helps.....

In short: no such thing as a 'blank firing rifle', the ones used by other groups are live weapons on a s.1 FAC. Costs:
FAC: £50
Gun cabinet: £250ish
Rifle: £250ish
These are top end prices as a worst case guide.

To get an FAC, contact your local Constabulary's firearms licensing section and ask for the application forms. When you complete it, rule through the sections relating to ammunition quantity etc. and state "blank firing only".

Subject to you and your property meeting the necessary criteria, you may be granted an FAC.

And if you live in Portsmouth, you probably won't bother as they make it nigh on impossible

Nah I live in a place called Swadlincote in the Midlands, the firearms officer isn't too bad in this area, so long as you keep to the various guidlines. Keeping the weapon locked and hidden, having the ammunition [if any] in a seperate and locked place etc etc.

Bloody 'ell Dave. You must have one of them deluxe walk in jobs. I paid £80 for a brand new one with space for four rifles.
I know you did give a worse case scenario, but it is possible to pick them up even cheaper second hand. Thing to do is to talk to your local gun club to find out who's selling what and also it's a good idea to ask them to find out what your local old bill are like with issuing FACs. As Darren says, it might save you a lot of time, money and hassle to find out in advance if your local police are known to be "unco-operative," which, unfortunately, some are known to be.

I think I paid £180 for mine - it has space for 10 weapons and 2 seperate ammo lockers inside (they get used for documemts and valuables). I wanted a large one as I have shotguns I use for sport plus muskets and my de-acts live in there as well. I was thinking of getting a walk in one, so I could keep my other half out the way...
