Re: what medal is this?
That is the SA Infantry Assualt badge.
The SA Infantry Assault Badge was never issued. This is the prototype for the proposed badge. The design is modeled on the standard Army Infantry Assault Badge, with a rifle crossed over a wreath, which is topped by the state eagle and swastika. For this badge, a lightning bolt is featured.

This is a complete fantasy badge,a similar design was featured in 'For Fuhrer and Fatherland' as a proposed design for the Infantry assault badge but its just rubbish!.
"I require able bodied men, with good horse and gun.
I wish none but those who desire to be actively engaged".
"Come on boys,if you want a heap of fun and to kill some yankees".

Thanks for the Intel John,
i can't seem to find any other information backing up the claims on this badge. there seems to be no other information concerning this badge. [that i can find]
must be fake then.
just shows you that you can't always trust the net to provide the truth.
oh well, back to the drawing board.

The best source for awards and medals(if you do not want to buy books) is wehrmacht awards.com or german combat awards.com.The book I mentioned 'For Fuhrer and Fatherland,vol;1&2 first published in 1976 & 1978 and were the 'bibles' of the collecting world at that time, but they are now dated, still good as a basic reference, but they contained copys and speculation.To-days ref;books are much more detailed, written by collectors for collectors.
A friend of mine has got me back into 'bad habits' and I've been collecting medals again, but I've also upgraded my library as well, spending more on books than the badges themselves. This is the same for re-enacting as well, the best books on your chosen subject, the world wide web is a usefull tool, but you should not rely on it.
