Boot hobnail question

Post by Steve Das Reich »

German WWII hobnails, a few questions.

Was the hobnail, always hexagonal in shape ?

Was a toe plate always used, or the whole sole covered in hobs ?

Was there a regulation pattern for fixing and therefore amount per boot ?

Or was it a question of what was available, your thoughts Gentlemen/Ladies.

yes, most of the time (except mountain boots) - well, it's sort of a vague hexagon

Was a toe plate always used, or the whole sole covered in hobs ?

no, sometimes nails were used instead of a toe plate

Was there a regulation pattern for fixing and therefore amount per boot ?

yes, there's a regulation pattern, but the exact amount of studs can vary, usually around 30 - 35 per boot . These are placed in 5 rows, but follow the shape of the sole (ie they are not in straight lines). I posted some pics somewhere, will try to find them.....

OK, found one, it's posted in my gallery
