Not really - there aren't that many dealers who deal in repro koobs. There are folk who deal in repro panels etc. and there are people who deal in koobs.
In the UK there aren't that many repros about - they are rarer than real ones actually! I would say maybe a dozen are about...... It's a matter of knowing who has then and keeping tabs on them - usually they are spoken for before they come up for sale such is the demand!

Expect to pay silly money for one too....... If you have the brass I'd advocate going for a real one as they are an investment.

http://www.kooblekar.com/

These guys specialise in reproducing kubels however they also have done work on reproducing other vehicles as well here in the US not sure what the outlook is for getting them accross the pond. I know one of my unit members has purchased one and we have used it extensively, there are a few minor things we would like to change both cosmetic and mechanical but for the most part it is a great to have around.

Quote:
Sirs;
I have a running KoobleKar and most of the panels for a second. While I have never owned a real Kubel, I can add some observations on the KoobleKar for those interested.
1. Older examples are pretty far off the mark on authenticity; the dash is pressed not separate pieces, the gauges from a Beetle of much later vintage, the wiring abysmal and the metalwork primitive. I am buying parts from Czech and rebuilding the first Kubel before trying the second.
2. Decide first whether yours will be a KoobleKar disguising itself as a Kubel or whether you'll want someting more in line with the original. KoobleKars are designed to allow a fellow with an older VW to have a running vehicle, and the Kubel was what fit the bill. These were not designed as Kubels. To remake one will cost more than buying or building the body yourself.
3. Get to know the forums on TheSamba.com.
4. The guys at KoobleKar Werke are impossible to get in touch with and offer little assistance after the sale. Beware, you're on your own here.
5. Be prepared for KoobleKar parts not to match up with original or Czech replicas. They do it their own way in New Mexico, not to replicate the original. Canvas, top frames, seats and trim items are one-offs, not to be replicated if they won't sell you extras or even answer the phone.

I can not recommend their products, but I have had a bad experience with them. I suggest looking first to other builders. I have seen Kubels made from busses and tubular frames that were more reliable than what I bought, and knowing what I have learned, I would not buy a Kooble.

If you want more horror stories, I have them....

I can't see where the engine is mounted - nevertheless - after thinking about it for a bit - I've ordered a chromed pickelhaube as a motoring helmet and I'm gonna buy the hot rod!
