things to remember when filming

Post by Tanaka »

since we have the other thread asking for people interested in being in a film i thought i would ask this now.

I've been approached by a company who makes programmes for the history channel enquiring if i can help with a series there putting together concerning the Pacific campaign and i was wondering what sort of questions i should be asking them regarding the work.

cheers guys

Things to ask are:

Money - how much are they paying you?
What is a standard shoot day? Normally I tell them I will do from 0800 to 1600 as my working day, and any time before or thereafter is at time and a half, rounded up to the nearest half hour. Shooting before 0700 or after 2100 is double rate.
If you are going to be away from home, arrange for decent accomodation - I usually specify a minimum 3 star hotel.
Ask them exactly what they want you to do - if its as a re-enactor, ask for about £100 for the 8 hours. If they are taking you on as a historical consultant, double the rate (I've done some bits for the BBC and got £400 a day as a historical advisor in the past).
Make sure you get a full credit at the end of it all.

Don't forget if you get this as a 'salary', you will have to declare it to the Inland Revenue accordingly. If they will take you on as an emplyee for the duration of the shoot, they can do the tax calculations and it makes life easier.

Just my ha'penny worth!
