SS Panzer berets ???

Hi kameraden
I didn't know where to put this as there is no Waffen SS catagory
on the forum in the Units section, anyway i put it here lol.

Any info on Panzer berets issued to SS Armoured troops about ??

I know they were issued as ive got a pic of them being worn on the
Franco/Spainish frontier in 1940 but other information is limited ???

According to Angolia's book "Uniforms & Traditions of the German Army 1933-1945" the Panzer Beret was abolished by an order dated 15 January 1941. The production of the beret was apparently stopped in 1941 also. Some berets were continued to be worn after that date, but were very limited. From photographic evidence, both Army and w-ss panzer crews aren't see wearing them after late 41-early 42. Hope that helps you out.

I know about the rules for WH Armoured personel and the beret
being phased out in 41, hence the introduction of the Einheitsmutze
in 1942 but there was some debate whether SS Panzer troops wore
them and i wanted to know if anyone else had any other information.

Well, according to all the w-ss armor books that I have, they wore the beret during the invasion of France 1940 through the invasion of the Balkans and Greece in 1941...after that you don't see the beret during the invasion of Russia.

Hiya, the beret can still be seen in photos of the 9th SS Panzer Division "Hohenstaufen" during forming up and training in 1943. Pics can be seen in the Div history book.

The field grey version is even rarer and there is a photo of them being worn in Russia by LSSAH ,in the LAH book by bender publications.
