I've seen a number of photos in books of Germans with straps diagonally across their chests, looking like breadbag straps, only about twice as wide. (Of course, when I looked on the net, I can't find any! )
Has anyone else noticed them and does anyone know what they were??

Re: Wide webbing straps
Ach, more fruitless searches. I'll have to take some poor quality photos of my book.

Re: Wide webbing straps
Sounds like they may be the heavy canvas straps with a clip on each end which were designed to carry mines, ammo tins etc.

Re: Wide webbing straps
There are also wide webbing strap loops with a single snap hook that are used to haul light artillery, anti-tank guns, and things like sleds. I have a couple in my collection. You can see one in the upper left corner in the photograph below that would be used to pull the Akja sled in the foreground:

Aha! That sounds right, Dave. (Looks for thumbs up smilie...)Feldjager wrote:Sounds like they may be the heavy canvas straps with a clip on each end which were designed to carry mines, ammo tins etc.
Yes, first pic I've come across is a 37 Pak crew who all have them. Another is an MG man. Yay, no more googling required!
