At a guesse you could try WH.Smiths.

Or here:

But don't throw away your old reels. I have found that older typewriters have thicker posts for the ribbon to go onto and you may have to thread the new ribbon onto the old reel.

Thanks for that! Yes, I was going to keep the reels as they are the original ones. I have found out that Rymans Stationary here in the UK sells 1/2 inch typewriter ribbon. There is a store in town so I shall pay a visit tommorow first thing.

Thanks again, Paul.

It's a cloth ribbon suspended between two reels impregnated with ink that sits just in front of the paper on a typewriter. When the typewriter key hits it, it transfers through the ribbon the desired or chosen letter to the page. It measures 1/2 inch across which is about 12mm I think..... hope that helps!

Typewriter Ribbon in place and working a dream on my Continental Portable with German Keys but sadly without the SS Key.

The Groma is the King of Typewriters and a beautiful machine. I don't know of anybody who repairs or could service our Alte Schreibmaschinen but it would be good to find somebody! :D

You could always try an old fashioned clock repairer. When I took a clockwork cine camera in to see if they could repair it their attitude was 'if it was made by a person then I can repair it' irrespective of what it was.
