HISTORY ALIVE

The hot topic on everyone’s lips right now is the changes to History Alive.

At the recent Annual General Meeting (December 2010 - Mod -), holding the event in 2011 was put to a vote. It was decided 16 to 4, that QLHF would hold a re-enactor only event in 2011, with a meeting on February 20 (tentative) to decide the viability of the event for 2012 and onwards.

How did we come to this decision?

In the past, History Alive has diverted a significant amount of time, effort and money. Unfortunately this year, it again, ran at a loss. This sparked some questions for the committee, as to the viability of the event, whether there is enough support from members and the whether the venue was right. It was unclear whether members truly wished to participate and support it in the long term, particularly if there are opportunities to develop other QLHF events, such as an annual ball.

This re-enactor only event will keep the name History Alive and will still be held in June. Currently, the venue is still to be confirmed, but we are hoping to remain at Fort Lytton. Anna-Margot Collins will be project manager for the event, but for any enquiries at this early stage, please send them to qlhf@qlhf.org.au.

We’ll send out more information as it becomes available. •

Following a general meeting of QLHF members yesterday, it was agreed that History Alive 2011 will be a public event once more.

As the organising committee meet and planning commences more details will become available. By all means check the QLHF website for further information.

I've no personal connection with either but they give a balance of the event, theme and attendees.

A good weekend, good crowd through despite the weather predicted to be raining cats & dogs and freezing cold, though only the rain stayed away. Perhaps over 300 re-enactors on site for the weekend.

Cheers.

Nice to see Living History around the World....... And this event seems to pretty much encapsulate it. Does your public show much interest or do they do as they do here - mainly gawp whilst licking their ice cream?

What tank is the one with number 35? It says panzer 38t in the flikr gallery you posted but it does not look like one. Self build not-so-accurate replica or a different tank than in the description?

Hello,

I believe and in saying this perfectly willing to be corrected by the more knowledgable that it started life as a FV432, two were built locally as Japanese tanks on these chassis for the film Thin Red Line. One repainted by that particular group without any further conversion to represent a 38t and the other remains in Japanese representation.

A Sherman was also fabricated for the same film though I couldn't tell you where that ended up.

The P2 has featured on this forum before I think and is now owned by a local lad.

And sorry......Yes the public do get quite involved in it and from what I've read here, we face the same problems as you in Europe and the US. It never ceased to amaze me over the weekend the variety of public types interested.

The event in staged in a 19th Century Fort built at the mouth of the Brisbane river, there are large open areas surrounding the fort to stage various camp sites and time lines and its really an event to showcase re-enactment rather than a particular era or group.

Its a good avenue for recruiting.

I assisted with the initial research for the CAD. Heres a pic I took when it was being built by FX Illusions. You can see the second one in the background
