The historic city of Waterford in the South of Ireland was the scene of the latest “promo” for this years Duncannon Military show. The City was founded in 914 AD by the Vikings who built a longphort or dock at the confluence of two rivers and named the place Vedrarfjiordr or windy fjord probably as a safe haven for Viking ships sheltering from a windy Irish Sea.

Reginald’s Tower on the cities walls marks the site of the first defensive structure built by the Viking settlers.

At the invitation of the local committee of the St. Patrick’ Day Festival, Battle Group South and the organisers of Duncannon 2009 were asked to participate in the parade. All of the groups featured in the following selection of photos from the parade are among the many participants who will be attending the show at the end of May.

some extra good snaps you got up there , thank you for the kind words and show promotion , all appreciated in this difficult financial year , every show needs to push hard this year to keep running and get as much support from the public as posssible and fellow groups , thankfully Duncannon has a loyal and long established following from all sides .

Not only did we have full permits and everything above board but we were given a police escort up the town and got the whole colum of vehicles and men in position at the start of the parade in record time , to be fair to the police they were great and pulled out all the stops to get us set up and in position ,
Thanks to all who helped and assisited us on the day especially the lads on the police bikes , I am sure with a little training we coud teach them to ride the R75 s or Zundapps
