Kameraden,

I've just had a look on the official W&PR website and on the news feed dated 30 Jan it talks about looking to improve the facilities for this years event with more and better showers, toilets etc and also talks about how water lines were tapped into to divert into various camps so causing damage to pipes, taps etc were left running so wasting water etc and they are looking at having cleaners on site 16 hours per day and security to ensure there is no damage etc, increased water storage and so on.

These extra facilities will cost money no doubt and although I have no proof that the two are linked I suspect the parking charge may well be connected.

Time will tell.

I have no problem with paying a charge for improved facilities but £30 seems a lot.

Apparantly i have been informed that the extra charge is connected with parking, apparantly
the organizer (Rex) has had to hire an adjacent field to accomodate the extra vehicles....maybe
it cost more than he thought, just passing on what ive been told

Regards Peiper

And that would make sense to me as well if they need more space.

I don't usually post but this really gets my goat. I've been going to w&p for quite a few years and really enjoyed it, ok so there were problems with the old site but compared to the new site it was fantastic. Last years show was rubbish, to put it politely. To the comment that vehicle owners pay the answer is SOME do. If you are "in the club" or a member of Imps then you don't. Rex is a robbing git. The public come to see the vehicles and re-enactors and WE are daft enough to pay to get on site so that Rex can charge punters to come and see our displays, please do me a favour. I say we but in reality some groups get funded to go and take their vehicles. Personally W&P going tits up would do the hobby a favour and may make other organisers think. We must be soft and or mad. We spend a small fortune on kit and petrol, we take time off work for what, so that someone else can make money. What do we get bugger all, we don't even get clean toilets, a free bun would be something OR EVEN a THNK YOU would help. Now for all that I will still attend shows, I will still drag kit hundreds of miles all over the country but wouldn't it be nice just for once to be appreciated. Get real Rex is making a fortune out of us DONT TRY AND DEFEND THE UNDEFENABLE. Oh and I wont be going to w&p again.

Ok, so I went off on one but this subject really does disappoint me. I realise that I should not have mentioned Rex in particular and to that end I would like to publically apologise for any hurt or offence caused by my comments about him. I do not know the him personally and I am sure that he is a upstanding and honourable businessman and member of the community. My comments were intended to relay a general frustration that I feel about the unfairness that exists within this hobby between the Organisers of events
and the Re-enacting community.

Once again I apologise unreservedly for the offensive comments.

i Understand where you're coming from Johann, as for myself i have nearly 900 miles round trip
and of course the time off work, last year it was without pay because they refused to give me the
time off, hopefully this year should be ok as im working somewhere else but even so the petrol
alone costs a fortune, if i do go it will be to support my own group and not to fill somebody's pockets,
but yes it is a dear game tbh but as you say we do it because we get something out of it such as seeing
old friends and the craic

For me reenactment isn't about public shows and with luck this will help the reenactment community to realise this and get involed in more private events ?
I'm not willing to pay for parking what ever cloak they hide it under, once it starts at w&p the rest of the events will follow suit ! Maybe not straight away but it will happen.

I for one will not be going , and although this saddens me as I've had some great times at w&p over the past 8 years , I would like to see this hobby grow and not be strangled into submission ?

Anyone fancy a private event ( living history ) £30 a head , wash out of a bowl , shit in the woods , act like a unit and enjoy it ;)

I've read on a forum or Faceache page somewhere, that there is also a charge of £30 for those attending but not in uniform(support drivers etc) and accompanying kids at £20.

Can anyone else confirm this?

I'm not keen on going this year, for the reasons mentioned above. I want to attend Kelmarsh instead, however, my other half enjoys W&P and is adamant that we attend.

Again, as has been mentioned, a thank you, or a cuppa or clean ablutions wouldn't do any harm.
