MAPLEDURHAM 30/31 MARCH

Post by pepperpot »

For those of you who missed it, its a great small show set on the banks of the river Thames at Mapledurham house grounds.
the only downside was the cold weather which no one could have predicted bearing in mind last year the temperature was 20'C whereas this weekend it was -6'c overnight and +6'c during the day. The most surprised people were the tourists going past our German Living History display on the Thames shuttle boats. Must have thought it was a new film of "The Eagle has landed".
small well organised battle and as usual went wrong despite all the careful planning. 4 of us from LWS were attached to a heer unit and we took our instructions from the officer, however, i ran out of ammo for the 38 and the two machine pistols beside me jammed so we were not able to defend the Pack after a sustained attack by the Americans. endex

Great Event , really enjoyed it despite the cold. A brilliant location.
All groups that attended worked well together , a friendly and relaxed atmosphere , with two great little battles.
Congratulations to both Dave's for putting on a fantastic event with loads of potential for the future.
Axis 44 will definitely be there again next year.
