...although we now have to hand in the Sec 5s on the Sat evening around dusk (20.00/21.00hrs?) there is enough people with their own privately owned weaps to carry on throughout the whole of the weekend finishing at 12.00 noon Sunday the 17th April.
The Belgium contingent will be badged as 83rd OHIO Division as will I, the 29th and some of the 2nd Armored in Europe group also coming.
The x3 Brit AB groups will amalgamate into one cohesive forces as will the supporting Brit Tommies coming, they will be on the flank.
The Axis will be opposite on the valley hill dug in and also along the length holding the myriad of foot and crossing points.
The Axis will be aggressively patrolling to sp[oill any allied build up of troops intending an attack, so the allies wil have their work cut out keeping the Axis forces at arms length whilst preparations for an advance are being made.

Operation: "GRENADE" But first the 83rd had to cross the Roer. Their next mission involved a combined attack into the German Rhineland. Field Marshal Sir Bernard L. Montgomery's Twenty-first Army Group was overall in command for the operation. Under his Command he had the Canadian First Army and British Second Army in the North. While in the south he had the U.S. First and Ninth Armies. The attack was two pronged designed to penetrate the Rhineland simultaneously. Operation Veritable took place in the North while Operation Grenade attacked in South. The Germans, desperate to stop the invasion of their homeland, flooded the Roer valley by opening the floodgates on the Roer river dams and the American Offensive was delayed by two weeks. Field Marshal Montgomery continued with the attack in the North. Lt. General William H.”Big Bill” Simpson, Commander of the U.S. Ninth Army, set the new D-Day for Operation Grenade to February 23, 1945. The 83rd division was assembled near Schaffenburg preparing for the upcoming offensive. The 83rd was now attached to the U.S. Ninth Army’s XIX Corps under the command of Major General Raymond. S. Mclain a Guardsman who rose through the ranks to become the first Corps Commander from the National Guard. The 29th and 30th Infantry divisions were to lead the offensive, while the 83rd along with the 2nd Armored would follow behind. The 330th Infantry regiment was temporarily attached to the 29th division for the initial assault across the Roer. On February 24th after intense artillery barrage from all the divisions in the Corps, the 330th launched their attack. The quickly captured the towns of Pattern and Mersch. By the end of the day they had advanced on to Sevenich and Kuntz. The next few days the 330th moved rapidly and captured Hasselsweiler, Gevelsdorf and Isen Kroidt. By February 27th the 330th was returned to 83rd Infantry control. Later that same day the 331st Infantry Regiment was released to the 2nd Armored Division. By months end the operation was a huge success and the allies were advancing with light resistance.

Daren Collins/FJR6 will be overall Axis CO so contact him...

Hi,Posted this last year but it still relevant.... Just some thoughts for you....16th 17th April ww2 Living History event at Pippers .
This event should be viewd as "I dont want to get shot" weekend. do your duty and carry out orders but not like John Wayne/Steve McQueen!! (Matt Damon ,SPR for you younguns!),And defo NO SHOT CALLING !!....................
There is going to be a large Allied force present and on 3 sections of the site so Axis forces will need to be well dug in on the valley hill BUT able to be fluid enough to move out and aggressively patrol down to patrol targets issued, ie travel lite..
Please think about what you do...
no charging across open land/roads without organising covering fire/Smoke etc.., these are the time consuming things that re-enactors dont like doing but improve the event enormously, when people are moving, get on your belly if you want to move close in,use smokes (NO GRENADES,TRIPS,PYROS,Smokes ok). Bring telephones/wire/jerry cans for water etc.. to help give the feeling of ww2,food stuffs wrapped in grease paper or white cotton, no pot noodles/sandwiches from the garage, calor gaz cookers (seen it) ,crisps (seen it)flasks (seen it!..ALWAYS END SMASHED)also in the past some started to bring their cars onto the site!! coz they could not sleep in a hole,If yop are pulling from the field of Ops please inform your relivant HQ where your off to .Cars on site NOT at this event & DEFO NO SHOT CALLING... Its booked to go 30hours and Modern tents stay at HUT D.., We will have comms between head sheds allied/axis group, if anyone/group starts causing grief ... ie, Blatting!..PURPOSELY disobeying orders/instructions on where to go then they will be asked to leave the site after one warning to behave and DEFO NO SHOT CALLING .... This is because the scenario is worked out ahead of time with the Axis commander, almost like a play, you need to follow the scenario director or it will all go to rat shit.
I am working on maps and will endeavior to make sure all receive one.
Lots of good will towards the opposition, NO SHOT calling.... shot taking will be required on both sides, not the end of the world to be taken out if you have moved and a shot rings out,if a bloke gets slotted, instead of him taking his helmet off and standing around smoking/eating using his eyes/nodding his head pointing where the oppo guy is who just shot him to his mates lie down still until the action subsides or has finished, and dont SHOT CALL...
admittedly those who shoot live know how ruddy hard it is to hit anything moving, I reckon most battles were about who could chuck the highest amount of lead about to keep the enemy's heads down untill they buggered off!,hope this helps. , dont panic!!. cheers Pete ... Oh... and dont

shot call....

Just on a side note here, I have noticed quite a few envelopes arriving with peoples disclaimers/site fees for the Pip Pk event that have been openned/semi openned peeled back for a decko etc  ..after 4 yrs away in Oz where this does not happen I am shocked as about 30% are like this..and majority of OK envelopes have been sellotaped down by the sender which would suggest they have experienced similar :? ?....is this quite common over here now..Pete

Yeah it's bad Pete... When I ask for group subs I say don't put the group name on the envelope, those ones often get tampered with.
Hanging up my Knochensack for now, it's been a good war!

Each year I get over 600 envelopes and occasionally some go missing. I've never had any opened and they have various contents (Not gonna specify on the net for security purposes)

I therefore send over 600 envelopes out a year and they contain a little plastic credit card sized membership. When we put an introductory letter in them a fair amount never arrived - I complained to the PO. It stopped for a month or so. Then it started again. Some people reported the envelope had been stuck back down. My theory is some little scroat thought they were credit or debit cards......... Threw some away when they weren't and sent others on after the problem was highlighted.

Now this year my daughter was helping out and filled some envelopes with cards but omitted the letters. Just a card rattling about in an envelope and you could make out the logo through it. Not a one has yet gone missing and we've done over 300 so far this year!

Thieves Pete - plain and simple - Thieves looking for money or a means to defraud. Sad but that's what we have today. The Royal Mail was a venerable institution and something to be trusted. The Post Office is a joke I'm afraid........

I worked in a large sorting office over the run up to one christmas (was broke, needs must) and was amazed at the lax attitude, one sack was ripped open and it contained about 500 girocheques, I gathered it up and gave it to a supervisor for safe keeping, only to see him wander over and stuff it into the forwarding bin, spewing all the easily reconisable brown envelopes throughout the load. I dont think it's the jolly chaps on the delivery routes, but it happens at sorting offices, lets face it, all temps, many many foriegn nationals. Now, that may sound racist, however it isn't, its a statement of fact, and allowing that they caught a ten man eastern european team in Gloucester sorting office who were stealing everything from credit cards/ debit cards, birthday cards you name it, means a security shakeup is needed.
I am the bane of pointy stick forums, thrice banned for honesty, hater of internet re enactors ( you know, the ones that know everything but never do an event).

When I was in UK last April I stayed at my sisters in Hemel Hemptead.. , coz of the jet lag I was awake around 05.00/05.30hrs and looking out of the bedroom window I wittnessed a bloke across the road coming out of his house dragging a FULL grey Royal Mail post office bag behind him ...I thought it was against the law to take post office bags off Royal Mail property?.. etc...this guy was wearing normal clothes, ie not Royal mail uniform etc But what IS rascist I think is that he was a muslim and I did nothing about it....... coz I feared getting into all sorts of grief if I reported it coz I could not prove anything etc.., if he had been a white bloke I think I would have happily picked up the phone at 09.00hrs to the plod !?.....so maybe this bloke spends the night openning up thick letters /bright envelopes containing birthday cards looking for cash?...sister said dont bother as he was clearly a foriegn gentleman and I'd get accused of racialism if I reprorted it...plus I was due to fly out following couple weeks back to Oz ....but now I am resident back in UK I might now report it when I contact them...Pete

It is unfortunate that there are some rogue people who work for Royal Mail but not all of us are thieving gits!
We had one who covered the round where i lived and he was opening letters for money to feed his gambling habbits, thankfully he got caught and jailed.
As for giro's, they are not kept in a secure safe place as they are treated as normal mail, we sometimes deliver up to 10 or 15 to some households, and why it would be easy to take one, it just is not worth the hassell, what would the point be in taking the chance of being caught, losing your job and the disrespect of family and friends plus a criminal record.
Peter if you are having problems with envelopes being opened then i would recommend in reporting it, it may be someone who deals with your post regularly and knows what is being delivered.
Some envelopes do get caught in the sorting machines if they haven't been stuck down properly but 30% of one persone mail ending up like that is a bit much!

Just my thoughts.

Ill be posting up details soon on how to get to Pip Pk and times to arrive at AND NOT BEFORE...as an xtra days hire chrarge can get levied if players arrive too early Friday...
For those travelling silly miles to get to the event there is a pub and a good chippy in forrest Row on the A22 just 6 miles befre Pip Pk entrance.PM me if you want dirctions for the chippy, the pub.... I reckon most normal blokes can find a pub!.
Can report tha no envelopes have been tampered with recently since the sellotape has been used.
The Axis troops need to be out early Sat AM, Oxlade will be on site from 16.00hrs Friday , so if Axis can manage to fight their way through the Friday evening choas of M25 to arrve before 23.00hrs,John hits his bed after that...., your weaps can be sorted,..... so on Sat AM early doors we can get you out into your area of ops, the Allied troops, mainly Brits seem to be nearly self sufficient in the weaps dept so I can get them out early as well.
Yanks, well theres the rub of it, virtualy all need to hire so that will slow down the outage of them to a trickle, HOWEVER...the Axis need time to get to their positions and start to dig in etc..so that will equal out in the end.
Darren Collins Green Devils Carentan FJR6 will be the Axis CO so can Axis groups COs make contact with Darren if you have not done so yet?...any probs or questions please pm me...
