transfers in the german forces

Hi fellas hoping you can help me out. im at present writing a bio for my character and hit a wall. My character joins the reserves, Landewehr, at 17 and gets mobilised in 1937/38. Would it be reserve unit to ersatz unit to frontline unit or reserve unit to frontline unit. I know the modern day British army workings but not the German ways. British route is reserve unit to mobilisation centre to regular unit. Thanks
