Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
Gents
Just so you know, I am 100000% sure that there is NO plans to make a northern branch of the SBG
There is only one group and it is run by one bloke and it's not any of those on Facebook lol
Also our risk assessments are only relevant to official SBG events and members so whatever you do it will not be under any SBG umbrella and as I hold the qualification in H&S (iosh) and I wrote all of the risk assessments for the group it's my call
Whatever you do I wish you luck

Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
Interesting thread and can only reiterate what SSPara has stated. The SBG is the longest established WWII reenactment group in Europe and we're still here for a reason. We believe wholeheartedly in what we wear on our belt buckles - Loyalty and Honour.
We are endorsed directly by the veterans of the Waffen-SS and the Leibstandarte because of our accurate portrayal. We do, and have, attended many events over the decades that have run the length and breadth of the UK and have done this with a UK (and European) wide membership. The decision to have 'official' SBG attendance rests with the people who are tasked with running our group and they have to consider many factors.
Health and safety and the assessment of risks that come with any show
Insurance cover for the membership of the SBG (once the risks have been assessed)
Presentation and representation of the group against the legacy that the veterans have left us
Support (numbers) for any potential event
The location of an event is not the issue, more the support from the membership and who can attend.
In none of the comments on this lengthy thread have I seen any reference to a conversation regarding this 'idea' having taken place with the people who run the SBG (Chairman, Vice-Chairman or any other senior members). The strength of the group rests with the support and loyalty of our extensive membership. I appreciate where you're coming from, but a 'northern' section of the SBG is neither needed, nor will it take place.
If you decide to 'go it alone', hope it all goes well. Many have taken the same path and their 'legacy' is there for all to view.

Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
Thanks for your input gents as I said I have no plans to leave the SBG
just unfortunately as I explained I cannot get to all the Southern based
shows/events, I was merely looking at other
options to do more locally

Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
Just a heads up gents, iam still looking at options and generating intrest to
the forming of a new SS group based in the Midlands....this will NOT have
any connection with my current group (SBG) which IAM planning to stay
with.
This new group will be for the small local shows in the North/Midlands
areas and will NOT clash with my current group events/shows, anybody
intrested must have their own PLI, PM me for details

Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
Just a heads up, the new local group is up and running now with a couple of members
(4 in all) to start with, just got to sort out PLI and get some of the members kitted out
and have set up a members/group page on facebook, we are hoping to do a local week-
ender show in a month or two for our debut lol, as said earlier this group will NOT be
part of my main group (SBG) which iam still a member, this group has been formed
simply to do some small local shows in the Midland/North areas.
(Update)
The group we decided to call "Arnhem-1944", as well as portraying the "10th SS-Panzer
Division Frundsberg (10th Aufklarungs)", the "sister" Division of the 9th Hohenstaufen,
we will also be portraying Allied units who were at the Arnhem as the title of the group
suggests, this is due to some new members who wish to portray the Allied Units who
were at this campaign,
Cheers Peiper

Re: New Midland based SS group possibilities
A final "update" to the group, because of
certain small events not allowing SS
portrayment we decided to do a small "generic"
Wehrmacht Aufklarungs Unit along with our
SS Frundsberg and Allied portrayals basically
depending on which event we will attend or
any request from organizers for a specific
portrayal, this will be my last post as i have
decided to leave the forum due to the fact
I can't be bothered with the constant
"I know better" bickering that goes on with
some of the adolescent members on here,
if anyone needs to contact me my reenactment
email is panzer1944@hotmail.co.uk
Cheerio to all my friends on here and hope to
see some of you at a reenactment show in
the near future.
