london proof house markings

Post by berlin1945 »

recently just mislaid one of my certificates for a de activation,

was looking at the barrel stamping and it had D AND A with a single sword and 96 on it, can I ask does the 96 relate to the year it was proofed for de activation and this is the London proof house marking.. have arranged to bring it to get a new cert , however what if I am stopped and asked for cert on my journey , is it fine not to have a cert as I will be on my way to get a new one thanks

There is no requirement in law for you to be in possession of the certificate. As long as the component parts are proofed as deactivated, then it is fine. Section 8 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 refers.

the only time u will need a certificate is when you sell the gun, you can sell without but good look managing that.

That's my point - the certificate merely has to be issued to confirm the deactivation work has been carried out to the required standard. Beyond that it has little merit.

I too have recently lost my proof house certificates while moving house,
How did you go about applying for new one/copies??
I have photocopies of all my de-act certs but would feel a hell of a lot safer with 'proper' certificates.
All help wold be greatly appreciated.

Danke kommeraden :D :)

i will advise u by pm when all done as it is not as straight forward like it would be on mainland due to passing through ferry ports . and having to declare carriage without certificate . i have a sonething printed up which covers u under section eight firearms act and 2004 ni order and booking reference with proof house as well so if stopped wont be taken off u for inspection or investigation . ur duplicate certs arnt any value if inspected only a point of rrference . u do require ur certs for travellng as police in right to confiscate for invedtigation no matter what others say . the stuff i have prevents this as it outlines acts and orders and couples it weith proof house appointment . will let u know costs as well per cert as it differs on the fay return or three dsy return if uturn up in person . will post pm to u detals on monday
