I am trying to find some information on the number and distribution of junior officers in your average German rifle company, from mid-war onwards. Based on one of the Osprey books I have perused, I have the following setup mapped out:
Infantry company:
- 3x rifle platoons
- 1x company HQ
- 1x anti-tank section
Rifle platoon:
- 4x rifle sections
- 1x 50mm mortar +2 crew
Rifle section:
- 1x NCO
- 9x Privates
(please correct if there are glaring mistakes here)
My question is thus: at what level does the first officer appear? One per platoon, leading the #1 section? Only at a company level?

Re: German company organization - info required
Normally the first platoon was lead by a Leutnant and the rest Feldwebels, but as the war progressed all the platoons were often led by Feldwebels, and a Leutnant could find himself leading the Company or and Oberleutnant with a Leutnant as a 2iC. Earlier the company was led by a Hauptmann. The heavy weapons section was often lead by a Unteroffizier pending on its size and what was used. As the war progressed more junior ranks got more repsonsability on paper but in the field their platoon might only be at half strength.

Check out the website below to see what the TO&E or KStN lists. The website has a wealth of information!

I assume platoon means Zug, is that correct ?
And what's the German word for section ?
In such cases I always stick to the original terminology, to avoid confusion when consulting the German sources. It makes my hair raise when I read words like platoon, section and squad
