Projekt Schweizer groBer Zelt

Post by ReduitimLuft »

Probably about halfway in putting together a large Swiss tent. Officially, there weren't any standard large tent frames, so the army improvised with wooden posts, planks, zeltpoles doubled up etc.

On another subject....... A combination of Touring Club Schweiz and Motorwagendienst, founded in 1936, provided a volunteer driver/car force, for military emergencies.

In this case, a Ford and a Chevrolet, towing 47mm Buhler field a/t guns. The Buhler was a breed apart. Umpteen countries used it, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, and most had their own individual case length.

Looking forward to seeing it when it's up. Would be good to see some uniformed soldiers with it...

Wimpole 2017 Wehrhafte Schweiz. Hopefully, when enough zeltplaches have been emassed, they will go over the existing frame. Update January 2018. In order to cover a standard 12' x 12' army frame, it takes 3 rows of 5 standard retangular Splittertarn/canvas Zeltplachen(Bahnen) , to cover the span 6', 6', 6', 6', 6' x 12'. Not including front and back covers. You could probably hide/garage a Stug under that, especially as there are no horizontal gables across the ends. Last three Zelts en route from Canada.

Interesting to see. Where have you sourced your square Swiss zelts from?

I'm putting together a large command shelter using square Swiss zelts and wooden poles. Looking to make it from a total of 9 zelts, but I'm stuck on 8 at the moment, so I'm looking for 1 more.

They seem to have gone up in price these days from back when I first started, so when I do locate one it seems to be going for silly money.

All over. 3 from Canada, on ebay ! Augera.ch and ricardo.ch Annoyingly, Juwa.de camping in Germany have bulk quantities, but won't post to u.k.. I read somewhere, that the Swiss also used the Wehrmacht-style triangular ones, together with rectangular. Never seen a triangular one with the Swiss aluminium army cross 'button' though. Brought 4 back from a trip to Switzerland on 2017. They are not cheap. £ 40-50 I think they Canadian Ebay guy may still have some. Increasingly, what's escaping Switzerland are the yellow-corner(struckoff ones, with holes or rips. I had to sew no end of new buttons on, repair ripped button holes. Lastly, they were put over a frame and sprayed with re-waterproofing aerosol cans.

Correction, Coro-handels.ag have bulk, in ch, CHF 85 each (£68) currently around 18 left. Not sure they'll send to uk.

Cheers, thanks for the information, I'll have a mooch about at those. I have a friend in Essen, so he usually takes anything that sellers won't post outside of Germany and then forwards them to me.
