In other news, we're pleased to announce that we've had an article published in Issue 90 of Skirmish magazine (this months) and that this weekend we shall be attending the Festival of History of Kelmarsh.
We're also looking at expanding our signals section, so if you have an interest in radio chatter, valves and wires please get in touch
Thanks
Neil.

Great lighting, angle and all. But how on HELL is he going to shoot that MG42 without the stock in his shoulder?

You just pull the trigger and it will shoot
But, no guarantee that he will hit anything that way

I hope it flies back and smacks him in the face - he's always smiling when he should be looking serious and that might cure it
It's been a while, so I thought i'd add a few more updates from our shows at Kelmarsh and Broadlands:
The full albums can be found on our gallery page:

Next stop - the Victory Show
see you all there!!

Afternoon each,
Over last weekend, the group held it's final event of the year at Ashdown Camp. This followed the usual format in that it served as a training weekend, we held our AGM and then had a bloody good knees up to see 2011 off
Over the weekend many pictures were taken of us going through the motions, so I thought i'd share a few with you.
Arising out of the AGM are a few points which i'd now like to mention publicly, of which some are in motion, some will take effect next year.
We've decided to drop the Americanism of 'Recon' and the unit specific designation of 2/.Pz.Aufkl.Abt from our name as we were finding it increasingly hard to justify it on grounds of authenticity. The plan is to now become the simpler "GD Aufklärungs" which will afford us a little more flexibility in our portrayal whilst allowing us to still follow our original path of being a reconnaissance outfit.
With 7 years experience behind us as a group, a healthy membership and some good contacts within the hobby we have also decided that the time is right for us to now go independent and be the captains of our own destiny. We will be setting ourselves up as such when our current membership with the WW2 LHA comes to an end in the New Year.
A 2012 events list has been decided on and after a few tweaks will be published to the main website.
So after another year of up's and down's, some leavers from the group and a fair few newcomers, I would like to thank everyone who has made it possible (both inside and out of the group) for another fantastic years re-enacting, your help, encouragement and support.
See you all next year - Im Geiste der Großdeutschland!
Neil.
PD, start the photo of the year thread

Last weekend the group were out in force to kick the 2012 campaign off.
Aside from getting us all together to blow away the cobwebs, the purpose of the weekend was a photoshoot allowing us to work with photographer Kevin Booth and film makers SinVision (of Victory Show fame) in order to produce a few film shorts for us to use as marketing tools and for Dave Sinclair to add to his ever expanding re-enactment portfolio.
So, about 20 of us got over to the excellent battle site at Spanby woods and made the most of the trench system and woodland there, endured freezing temperatures and 2 or 3 inches of snowfall on Saturday night (we didn't have to pretend to be freezing cold on the Ostfront this time
)
The theme for the weekend was based on GD's actions in Lapkovo 1942.
Dave at SinVision has now completed a couple of films which I thought i'd share.
For a welcome to the group:

For the Russian (which was a side project Dave has put together):

And finally, for a war report:

More to follow next week
We are of course actively recruiting for 2012, so if you are mental enough to play out in the most demanding of weather and go that extra mile to achieve results please get in touch.
Neil.

Love that term" Marketing tool" - It had to come
As usual - well done - well thought out, well put together and well executed.
You boys are creeping out there - way in front of the field. Lots of hard work, motivation and Kameradschaft.

Ha! Sorry for the smelly business chat - couldn't think what else to call it
Just for fun, Dave has also put together a selection of bloopers, a nice lighthearted record of a fun weekend...

It's been a busy few months for the group hence the lack of updates.
March saw us take part in filmwork for musician Julian Tomas. It was a novelty filming through the night and freezing rain stopped play on a couple of occasions.
By 3am we were done though and this was the result:
http://youtu.be/17krEgo5lSw
Next up was our annual trip to Churnet Valley Railway. We were lucky enough to have photographer and friend of the group Kev Booth come along and take photo's of us throughout the weekend and he also amazingly managed to get a short newsreel type movie of us done as well. Angles were tight and the backdrops were a bit of a nightmare, but he managed none the less.
And the newsreel:

Our next show see's us travel to EH's wartime event at Dover Castle at the beginning of June and then it's off to enjoy the fantastic building we have at our disposal at the Avoncroft war weekend in the middle of June.
See you there?
Neil.
