The Hop Farm — which has kids’ play areas and a Victorian carousel — last night reacted with horror.

A spokeswoman said the group previously took part in the park’s annual War and Peace Show, adding: “We knew they were a military history re-enactment group.

“But there’s no way we would have sanctioned something like this if we’d known. We certainly won’t be inviting them back.”

I assume then from that statement that all SS groups will be banned from war and peace next year. The fact that SBG organise the battles is going to prove a problem if they aint there, cant see this happening though i suspect a good many MVT will be ecstatic.

how fecking pathetic

I'm actually impressed with the level of intellect and common sense being shown in the comments. Not what I'd expect from readers of the sun. They published the 'journalist's email address too....

I liked the photos very nice, the quality of journalism was not really impressive, seems to me that it was one of those stocking filler stories without any thought of foundation and with a rent a mob mentality, SBG are above all this to be honest and the less even said the better, hope a good evening was had by all concerned at the event and do not let poor quality journalism affect your excellent reputation.

Having read the somewhat inadequate piece on a bunch of military re-enactors I would like to make the following observations. The “Panorama” piece refered to was (rather like the Newsnight McAlpine piece) a piece of “badge engineered” tripe produced by a freelance production company, not the BBC, and fronted by the disreputable John Sweeny. This programme was slated in reviews at the time and was censured by Ofcom who upheld a complaint by Mr Swallow for having been unfairly treated. The Second Battle Group have been holding their annual dinner at the Hop Farm for the past ten years. The organisers and owners of the Hop Farm are fully aware of who and what the Second Battle Group are as the SBG run and participate in the second world war battles at the Hop Farm’s War and Peace show and have done so for the past 30 years!

Roll on Levison and a few more of these phone hacking tripe mongers getting put on the pointy end of the stick.

Cant see hop farm banning us from the W&P too much money is involved
although personally i would tell em to stuff the Xmas do infuture in response
to them back stabbing us, they have been happy taking our money for hiring
the room for years and yes they knew who we are alright grrrrrr :x
Pipes

PS: I must add that apparantly the photographer in question was a proffessional
freelancer and had infact waited in a parked car to get these "snaps" and the story
so it appears that he was "tipped off" either by the hop farm staff or hotel staff,
sneaky or what......what else can you expect from the gutter press lol, they must be
very short of readers at the "Sin" sorry Sun if they need to resort to these lengths
to get a story which basicaly has been blowed out of proportion as usual lol

While I am a regular visitor I haven't posted on the site for some time but I feel I must add my opinion on this recent attempt by a 'media hack' to bring Axis re-enactment in general and the very successful SBG in particular, into public disrepute.

The last poster is correct and long after this 'paper' is used to wrap up leftovers or dumped into the recycling bin, SBG will continue its authentic portrayal of the soldiers of the LSSAH and continue their involvement in organising and participating in those spectacular battle simulations.

Every cloud has a silver lining and this type of gutter journalsim may well backfire - I say that because it was the 'expose' by that other moron Sweeny, who prompted me to join Battle Group 'South' here after I left the army. :)

On the other hand it does show the need for constant vigilance on the part of all members and particularly the leadership, of our groups. What do I mean by that? No one should be allowed to carry plastic bags while in uniform, unless they are of the period.

Keep it up lads and lassies!

Well said Aid
The only thing we can do, not just SBG but other reenactor groups is be extra vigillant especially
with the coming "silly season", basically cover up when going to parties/season get to gethers etc,
dont wear head gear until inside and wear a civillian overcoat so not to give any lurking paparazi
scumbag the excuse for lucky snaps, don't give them any rope gents....dirty lowlifes .....grrrrr

And what does not kill us only makes us stronger - That he which hath no stomach to this fight let him depart. His passport shall be made and crown for convoy put in his purse. We would not die in that mans company who fears his fellowship but to die with us.
