Hi Lads,

In the begin they worn their shields on their upper arm..
Later in war they removed it to the lower arm 1,5 cm from cuff...

I can't figure the dates out when they decided to do so.

I have surched for the early type, but i think not availble at any store.

A small detail from our Wallonie kamerads is that the bird is placed exact under the winkel. :)

I'll think it must be 1,5 cm space between them.

http://www.militarycollectibles4u.nl/a- ... s-schilden here is someone who sells something that looks like the early war ones, but it seems to be too large and with more minor differences. Btw, it is not known if any of the Dutch shields were used from mid 1943 onwards, there is no photographical evidence of it. Only cufftitles seem to be worn and even those aren't very common.

Right, bilders are rare with that insignia. :)

Some say even the "dachau" shield is never worn.

I had 2 originals...no picture, but they were made...i'll suppose it is worn then.

But Mooyman had his tri-colour shield just about the cuff no doubt about it.

That the Dachau shields have been made doesn't say that they were issued. Untill now there is no evidence that shows them to be worn, but it's always possible that photos or documents show up that they were worn.

The placement of the shield seems to be related to the use of a Sturmmann/Rottenführer winkel. The exeption on this are the Kriegsberichter from the legion who had a rectangular shield on the lower arm. Photos from this can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27535089@N ... 891528894/

Could be but i don't think so.I think there is no relation between the winkel and were the shield must be.
On early pictures i see them on the upper arm(also soldiers) ''later'' in war the shield is worn below.

Only for the Frw.Leg.NL (so until mid 1943) was that. Then the rule seems to be that the shield is on the upper arm except when having a oberschütze, sturmmann, rottenführer winkel with which they're all on the lower arm. Pz Gren Brigade/Division Nederland wasn't allowed to wear the Dutch shield, so no late war option on the Dutch shields in the Waffen SS. Don't know why though.

The first shields were the small pointed ones, after that there were the ones with diagonal stripes. The rectangular shields seem to be only worn by the propagandazug. The Dachau shield with horizontal stripes was as far as I know never issued.

For the cufftitle's, the first ones were the Dutch made cufftitles with the very ugly characters ('Legion Niederlande'). After that came the Frw.Leg.Nederland/Frw.Leg.Niederlande cufftitles with the typical 'g' going trough the bottom line.

Check this link for a couple of the shields and cufftitles: http://i40.tinypic.com/5ocg07.jpg
