At the end of the pleat it opened, but can be closed by four small buttons. There is a belt in the back, about waist high, that has a two buttons. At the bottom of the greatcoat there are four hooks, which can be attached to the loops sewn into the side at the waist for mounting into vehicles or for fast movement. Original Waffen SS Former Hitler Jugend Members Sleeve Diamond- (Vorigmitglied HJ Ärmelabzeichen)- The wearing of specific, identifying, trade or specialty badges was an old tradition in the German army and was adopted by the SS to distinguish personnel who had successful completed the appropriate course and had achieved proficiency at a particular trade, specialty or function. The Waffen-SS instituted a series of six, former service identification sleeve badges that followed the same basic format of the trade, specialty and assignment sleeves badges. These former service identification sleeve badges were designed to indicate the wearer had served in an approved political or para-military organization before entering the Waffen-SS. This example was designed for wear by former Hitler Jugend (Hitler Youth) members.

The Sleeve Diamond is about 75mm tall, 45mm wide, vertical, black wool diamond base with a machine embroidered HJ diamond in silvery/white and black threads with the black replacing the red of the original HJ diamonds. The HJ insignia is in the form of a vertical diamond with black top and bottom quarters and silvery/white side quarters with a central, black, canted, swastika superimposed on a silvery/white diamond background field. It is missing the RZM Tag and someone has used some glue to glue it down to a cloth, which there is some remaining. The insignia is in overall excellent, unissued condition. $85.00

Original Hitler Jugend Motor Class "A" Qualification Sleeve Badge (HJ-Prüfung Abzeichen)- Established in early 1933 in cooperation with the NSKK, National Sozialistische Kraftfahr Korps, (National Socialist Motor Corps), the Motor-HJ was the earliest, and largest specialty section of the Hitler Jugend. The age entry level for the Motor-HJ was fifteen years old and the first year was spent on driving theory and practical mechanic training until the member reached sixteen years old and was eligible to qualify for his driver’s license. The Motor-HJ established the Motor Qualification Badge in three classes of A, B, and C with each subsequent class being more complex and detailed then its predecessor. The class A badge was the lowest of the three and the qualification for award was divided into four sub-categories consisting of knowledge of driving, vehicle repair, laws and road signs and driving proficiency. The badge was worn on the lower left sleeve of the brown shirt and service tunic.

The sleeve badge is roughly 1 7/8" diameter, pink wool construction badge with a machine embroidered, eight spoke steering wheel in silver/grey threads to the center. The reverse of the badge has a ribbed tan cotton twill backing and the original white paper RZM/HJ tag with red printed script and black ink stamped manufacturer’s numerical code. The tag has both the red printed RZM logo and the HJ diamond. The original RZM Tag is there and someone has used some glue to glue it down to a cloth, which once removed it has torn some of the RZM tag. Excellent example and in unissued condition. $75.00

Original German WWII Black Wound Badge, 1939 (Verwundeten-Abzeichen, Schwarz)- The wound badge was originally established on March 3, 1918 by King Wilhelm II to recognize the sacrifice of those wounded during WWI. The badge was instituted in three classes of black, silver and gold with the class bestowed reflecting the number or severity of the wounds received. With the outbreak of WWII, on September 1, 1939, Hitler re-instituted a slightly modified version of the badge. The badge was awarded to both military and uniformed non-military personnel and later to civilian personnel who received wounds as a result of enemy actions.

The 1939 pattern, die stamped, magnetic sheet metal construction, hollow backed badge with a black wash. The badge is in the form of an embossed, vertically oval, laurel leaf wreath encompassing an embossed profile of a helmet with swastika to the center, superimposed over crossed swords on a pebbled base field. The reverse of the badge is well marked with two faintly embossed manufacturer’s numerical code, "65", both indicating manufacture Klein & Quenzer of Idar/Oberstein. $75.00

Original SA Long Service Chevron (Winkel für dienst Angehörige der SA)- As with other NSDAP organizations the SA introduced a Long Service Chevron on February 3, 1934 to identify the SA Alte Garde, (Old Guard), those personnel who had been members of the SA, before January 30TH 1933. The significance of membership in the SA or other NSDAP organizations prior to January 30TH 1933 was that it was before the NSDAP and Hitler held any official power within Germany. The SA Long Service Chevron was intended for wear on the upper right sleeve of brown shirt the service tunic and the greatcoat by all eligible SA personnel. The SA Long Service Chevron was replaced with newly introduced Long Service Sleeve Stripes sometime prior to the war.

The chevron consists of a machine woven, bright, gilded/aluminum, waffle patterned, "V" chevron with two, interwoven, narrow, parallel brown stripes situated near both the inside and outside edges. The chevron does not have any backing. The insignia is in overall good condition with light age toning. $75.00

Original German WWII Bravery & Commemorative Medal Bag Holder Of The Spanish Blue Division 1941 (Tapferkeits-und Erinnerungsmedaille der Spanischen Blauen Division)- With the collapse of France in June 1940 Hitler appealed to Spain’s Generalissimo Francisco Franco to ally with the Axis as a form of repayment for Germany’s military assistance in the Spanish Civil war. Franco refrained from any commitment until the Germans invaded Russia, which had provided aid to the Spanish communist Republican party during the Spanish Civil war. As a result it was decided that a Spanish Legion of roughly 4,000 personnel was to be raised and sent to the Russian front. When the call went out for the Spanish volunteers over 40,000, mostly Civil war veterans came forward and it was decided to form a full Spanish Infantry Division. Since Spain had made no official declaration of war the Spanish volunteers were integrated into the German army as the 250TH Infantry Division, but were most commonly referred to as the Spanish Blue Division. In appreciation for the Spaniards service the Germans instituted the Bravery & Commemorative Medal of the Spanish Blue Division in January 1944 to recognize and reward the Spanish volunteers who served on the Russian front from August 1941 to October 1943. The criteria for bestowal of the award was very similar to the criteria for the Russian Front Medal with the main qualification being at least fourteen days of participation in combat on the Russian front. Although the Germans had instituted an award for members of the Spanish Blue Division for its service on the Russian front, on November 9TH 1943 the Spanish also designed and issued their own award to recognize this service which was entitled, Commemorative Medal for the Spanish Volunteers in the Battle against Bolshevism.

The bag holder is in very good to excellent condition and still retains the original wrapping for the medal one placed inside. The bag has the inscription Erinnerungsmedaille für die Spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus and has the manufacturer name and address on the back in small lettering. This bag is sometimes kept, but most of the time thrown out. $35.00

This form of cap badge was used between 1937 and 1940, those after 1940 having a right-facing eagle.

The stamped alloy visor cap badge is approximately 1 7/8" square, in the form of a stylized eagle with down-swept wings, clutching "NSKOV" in its talons, and with that organization’s emblem superimposed to its breast. The emblem is comprised of a black mobile swastika within a circle bordered in red, the circle set against a black Iron Cross, and the Iron Cross set against a vertical sword, which has an oval oak leaf wreath surrounding it.
