Achtung all Axis renactors in the Rep . of Ireland.
Following a recent spot inspection by the Police to the Armoury of "Battlegroupsouth " I think it is very important that this topic is read and understood as it concerns us.
We received a "visit" from the Police asking to see our firearms and proper paper work , as expected everything checked out . We have a rule in Battlegroupsouth ,that if you own a deact or live firer you must provide us with copies of this material which we keep on our own club records .All this material was examined as were our weapons by the Police .I would like to thank the two officers who were involved , they were very professional and helpful .They did provide me with information which is Very Important in relation to firearms and our hobby.
Any person wishing to import a live or deact firearm into the Rep.of Ireland must first apply to the Dept. of Justice for a import licence .Then you must receive permission from your local Superintendent to hold this firearm .It is illegal to hold even a deact here if you have not properly imported it and under the new firearm laws 2006 it is a offence which carries a large fine and jail sentence ,you have been warned !!!!!
If anybody would like to know more just send me a pm and I will gladly help .
Regards
Schnellmeyer

I'd suggest that people to check with the relevant competant authorities if they are intending to travel with live, deactivated or imitation weapons from North to South, or vice versa, exactly as one would if taking these things onto the continent. It's better safe than sorry, and you will also have the correct information first hand (no disrespect intended Schnellmeyer)
This isn't a dig at your post Schnellmeyer, but on t'other forum there is a lot of odd and bad advice issued and I personally advocate getting the correct information from the correct people!

re
hi feldjager,
your 100% right about getting the correct information from the correct people either your local super or dept of justice they are the only ones who can tell you what is legal and what is not its not point in some saying it will be okay or dont say anything, all you need is one person to get caught out by the athorities with no paperwork or the liecences and they are in a reenactment group or club and it and it will be cutains then for anyone in reenactment community and it will make no difference if you say "sorry i didnt know" as this will not cut it with relevent people your weapon will taken off you and everyone else involved in reenactment will get a knock on the door one day and have there weapon confiscated, just because of one person didnt check the regulations in there country.

Exactly what the VD clinic told me last time...SchnellMeyer wrote:," Prevention is Better than Cure ".
