I may look into an Azad Hind impression when I have finished my BFC one.
Interesting to note is the fact that in the European Azad Hind there was a Welshman called Frank Becker, an interpreter.

Do you think you could start a thread about the Asian Azad Hind that fought under Japanese control, I believe that they were 40 000 strong and did see action on the Burma front.

Cheers, Bill

For the record, the SBG have a large number of foreign members from a wide range of countries.

We have a sizeable Spanish contingent who, apart from wearing LSSAH uniforms, also wear Spanish 'Blue Division' uniforms. We also have Dane's, Dutch, Germans and some French members, some of whom wear Freiwillige shields on their tunics, when they can get away with it.

However, because of the restrictions at the big shows they tend not to wear the shields and armbinden there.

I'm all for Freiwillge units being portrayed in re-enactment as they did contribute a significant part to WW2.

To be honest I never realised that there was any kind of ban on volunteer uniforms being worn at some shows? I have certainly seen them being worn. I could see BFC being a problem (No offence there Bill. Taking from show organisers point of view) but other Western European volunteers, what is the problem?

I think that the subject is a very interesting one and would make an informative display. Lots of colourful and different uniforms, particularly if you go for any of the Eastern Legions.

By the way, the Veterans of the INA get a state pension form the Indian Govt. Whereas the Vets of the British Indian Army get nothing.

Cheers, Ade.

Regarding army pensions i wonder if the BFC veterans who are alive get a German pension as well as a British or commonwealth pension?
I guess this goes with any other F.V within the German armed services

I agree that they should be represented to show the multi national face of the German Werhmact. May help rid the common misconseption that all Germans were nasty nazi's and every other country where as white as snow.

I was having such a 'discussion' with my girlfriend about the terrible oppression of the Poles in the Warsaw uprising compared the airbourne murder of the people and city of Dresden.

A good point tavarisch! When we did 835 we fell into that trap. Trident made the gucci badges, and we'd done a bit of research into joint muslim/christian units and thought, yes this is the way forward.

So, we did all the research, got the uniforms and found their contribution to ww2 was... erm... ahhh... not much really. They did fight for about 2 days and many were killed, but on the WW2 radar, its not even a blip on a very small blip. You can only recreate sweeping up and pushing wheelbarrows for so long... So yes, they should be done, but they really need to have conributed, otherwise you end up with a raft of armshields and dodgy uniforms and not much else. There are enough balshoi foriegn units in the Wermacht without doing legion of the sandjak or something.

I've learned my lesson. Oh yes... Stick to the mainstream. Thats why I've got an original Bulgarian ww2 uniform upstairs.

I am for Foreign volunteer reenactment. What's so wrong about them? Some Politically correct people claim they are traitors, but the Foreign volunteers mostly only fought the Soviet Union, not the Western Allies. The foreign volunteers only did for what they believed in, protecting Europe from communism. No matter how the NS regime might be, these were normal soldiers who thought, rightly or wrongly, that they fought for their countries, their traditions, culture, continent, and loved ones. If you take into account that the Soviet Union had destroyed religion, sent millions to the Gulags, and German propaganda says that they were attacking Europe, many obviously would join the Waffen-SS. For example, what of the Latvian and Estonian volunteers? They weren't betraying anyone, their country was invaded by the Soviet Union. I would be seriously hated by some left wing P-C guys for saying this blasphemy, but let me just point out, just because I understand, have nothing against the reenactment of foreign volunteer DOES not mean I am a neo-nazi skinhead, I'm anything but that.

I hope that this was a reasonable post to this thread.

i voted yes. i think it can and should be done. in regards to the western legions, i don't think they had any "war crimes" attributed to them, but some of the eastern vollunteer units were pretty unsavory, but not all. after i have finished putting toghther my field chaplin immpresion, i'm going to put toghther a FV uniform. :D

out of intrest which show don't allow FV insignia?

Left wing PC battalion... shagom... marsh! :D Actually it is a good point Kevin makes. If the Russian people can accept these different nations being portrayed (and they can cause there are a gazillion phots taken of them) then why can't we? And to be honest, most people in Britain cannot recognise the difference between the Dutch and French flags, so knowing that its an Estonian armshield is possible but not likely!

YES! :D For those that have a darker skin color, etc., this gives them a chance to do Axis and not get bum-rushed by the authenticity rules about why are you doing ethnic German and with darker skin, etc. Not a rant here, just the facts. :? I say GO. GO! :D

Would someone who looks liek German volunteer to be the commanding officer of the Chinese SS Division? :D (LOL, joking :D )

cheers,
a totally worked up Kevin! :D
How about no no no and no, stop trying to justify yourself wearing a W-SS uniform, portray osttruppen, cossack unit etc not a made up unit FFS
