Things you should never buy. They didnt exist.
There are bits of kit available as 'reproduction' that never existed in wartime. Not looking for modern items re-tasked, we all know Bundy helmet covers are pants, dont we?
I propose a list that new chaps or people moving sideways can consult.
I have a few to start with, one triggered by a recent thread.
1) Embroidered Litzen. Never existed but available from many vendors. Cheap and no fiddly folding but dont be drawn.
2) Field grey wool backed embroidered heer M43 cap badges. Again a fantasy item but appear on many cheap caps. Easier to sew than bevo but as wrong as a wrong thing.
3) Web shovel covers, just dont.

SS were issued the wool "trapazoid" M43 cap badge but yes WH wasn't issued them sure, another one thats gets my goat is peadot caps....no no no they weren't issued, you may get the odd one "frontline made" but in the mainstream they weren't issuedSplinterA wrote: 2) Field grey wool backed embroidered M43 cap badges. SS pea dot cammo in wrong colour combination.
Pea dot had five colours - two browns, three greens. While there where variations in the shades between makers, there should always be three greens and two browns.
Sad to see some well known sellers are still offering 'excellent repros' that are wrong and were never made in that pattern. Have a quick count up of the dot colours before u buy cheap and wrong

Quite right Peiper, sloppy posting on my behalf. There are some wool traps for Heer Panzer caps and for Luftwaffe too.peiper1944 wrote:SS were issued the wool "trapazoid" M43 cap badge but yes WH wasn't issued them sure,
If no-one objects I'll go back and edit it?

The blue covers for waterbottles, there's another one, also i forgot to mention Peadot helmet
covers and Peadot paratrooper smocks, basically apart from the normal Peadot 44 tunic and
Peadot Panzer wrap over other fictional Peadot clothing didn't exist except as "field-made"
versions.

Actually dot FJ smocks were factory made, but only a small amount, and no evidence of them ever being issued. So they are still a no-go for reenacting
Another thing to add to the list would be slime green and piss yellow breadbags, with teardrop shaped leather reenforcing around the buttonholes on the loops.
Craploads of reenactors use these!

of the dot para smock found but if they were
actually issued that is another question, as
for repro breadbags, I agree most of them
out there are crap or so expensive you may
as well buy an original at around the £30 mark
as I had done

Do the Germans know that the Heer didn't use embroidered trapezoid eagles?
(Original, but not on wool)
And I assume this is the God-awful reproduction that you meant. They are truly terrible.
