Hi Guys.
Bought a repro officers Garbadine tunic for a display and looking at shoulder boards, now I know that the tongue of the boards would be sewn into a little hole that's in the shoulder seam and then that itself sewn up.
But I've seen these: http://www.historical-militaria-shop.co ... yellow.htm
Now I've done a lot of research and read many, many books and webpages and not seen anything about them actually being used, are they a "myth" item purely made because people now can't be arsed to sew or are they a real model of shoulder board?

i was told (reliably) that both were used. All my officers uniforms bar one are not sown in and i use screw version type shoulder buttons.

Yup, either these type or sewn in are fine.
Offizier shoulder straps are shown in some detail in Scott Pritchett's GD books and there are plenty of examples of these T shaped ones with a bar in the end to hold them in place.
Get someone in the know to do the tailoring though as you don't want to rag your tunic
This is a T one I've just had put into my field tunic...

Re: Officers Shoulderboards
these t-ended shoulderboards (usually made from finer materials as well) were very much used in walking out / dress uniforms. They were less used in Field Officer's uniforms. As the others have said, for a field impression, sew in or slip on are fine.
