Breif History :
Walther Friedrich Schellenburg was born in Saarbrucken in 1910, he joined the SS
in 1933 then after a chance meeting with Heydrich in 1939 he was transferred to
the Counter Intelligence Dept of the SD.
His first operation was the capture of two British agents in 1939 which was known
as the "Venlo incident", his most infamous operation was the planning and final
bugging of the well known Berlin Brothel known as "Salon Kitty", he was also
sent to Portugal in 1940 to intercept and detain the Duke (Edward V11) and
Duchess of Windsor unfortunately for the Germans the attempt failed as the
Winsdor's managed to evade interception.

Another operation that this time Schellenburg led was the search for the Soviet
spy ring which had infiltrated the German High command known as the "Red-
Orchestra", other various spying operations continued such as the planning of
the Gran Sasso rescue of Mussolini and the kidnapping of the Prince of Hungary
to ensure the Hungarians remained pro German, also an operation which was planned
called "Operation Osprey" which involved sending commandos to neutral Ireland, he also
had some involvement with the operation to forge British then later American banknotes
called "Operation Bernhard" and was involved in the planning side and was also sent
with a fellow agent to Switzerland to test out the notes in a Swiss bank which notes
passed all scrutiny.

A couple of intresting facts, in his office Schellenburg had an armoured desk which
contained two machine guns which fired at the touch of a button, also believed to be
one of Coco Chanel's lovers and when he died penniless she paid for his funeral.
Schellenburg was sent to six years imprisonment at the Nuremburg War Crimes trials
during which time he wrote his memoirs called "The Labyrinth" which title reffered to
his twist and turns during his spy career, he was released from prison in 1951 due to
bad health and died the following year in 1952 in Turin, Italy, he finished the War with
the rank of SS-Brigadefuhrer Und Generalmajor Der Polizei and was Cheif of Amt V1
Ausland-SD, his decorations included the Iron Cross 1st/2nd class, War Merit Cross
1st/2nd class and SS Long service medal.

Looks like a nice tunic,it needs some twisted silver/aluminium wire for the collar though.

but just started to get round to it, as for the silver collar
wire edging that was done on Saturday, the pic was taken
previously, just got to sew on the other insignia now, I'll
add some more pics when im done, the Schirmutze is the
Erel SS General's type from Militaria Net ;-)
